Canterbury - Race 4 6:30pm AEDT

No. 1 Belle Espoir

Belle Espoir knows how to cash a cheque over this distance with three wins and a place to her name from five starts.

The daughter of Nicconi didn’t show much of a kick in her latest run at Warwick Farm over the mile, but she can be forgiven for that performance given she won back-to-back starts prior.

She bounced back well with a trial win last win, and the form out of that previous race reads well with the winner going on to run a place on Boxing Day at Randwick.

No. 1 Special Reward

This is a quality edition of the Listed Christmas Classic with a case to be made for most.

Special Reward returned from a freshen-up last month at Randwick where he beat home Snapdancer and Southern Lad by half a length in the Razor Sharp.

He tackles the same distance here, has been kept fresh, and has outstanding soft track form to his name.

The Kris Lees-trained six-year-old has a bit of a class edge over some of his rivals, and the fact James McDonald has been booked to ride only improves his chances.

No. 8 My Demetra

My Demetra has a run under her belt over 1900m after finishing a clear runner-up to High Court over the track and trip a few weeks ago.

She rolled forward that day and run down 200m out from home, and it’s likely we see Sam Clipperton employ similar tactics here.

The Camelot mare has missed the top five only once in her last nine starts, and she’s worth an each-way wager with some decent wet track form to her name.

No. 3 Kutayha

Kutayha is a super consistent type that has run no worse than fifth in all 17 starts.

He was 2.5L fifth in a race won by Holyfield at Randwick on Boxing Day where he made up some ground after getting back early.

The Savabeel gelding presents fitter in his second run back and has won at this stage of his prep before, and this is also looks an easier race for him back in class with Hugh Bowman steering.
