Daily Racing Tips – Friday 28th January
Canterbury - Race 4 7:30pm AEDT
No. 2 Savoury
It’s been a while in between drinks for Savoury, but he is a much better horse than his latest start at Warwick Farm suggests.
The son of Savabeel spent a lot of petrol to take up the lead and was left with nothing in the tank when finishing fifth.
He maps to get a much more patient ride here under Tim Clark, while the form out of his previous race reads well with Marnix going on to win again on Wednesday. Three wins from six starts at Canterbury also reads well.
Canterbury - Race 6 8:30pm AEDT
No. 6 Texcel
Texcel was a consistent customer last time in work and looks one of the major players here.
The lightly-raced gelding out of the Maher and Eustace yard won his maiden by a big margin over the mile at Goulburn and then backed that up two weeks later with another easy 2.5L win.
He’s raced well over shorter trips here at Canterbury in the past and appeared in great order in recent trials. With Hugh Bowman back on board, he goes on top.
Canterbury - Race 7 9:00pm AEDT
No. 2 Able Willie
Able Willie looks to have a class edge over some of his rivals after competing at Stakes grade during his maiden prep.
The Waller-trained three-year-old won convincingly on debut at Kensington last September and gained plenty of admirers stepping up to Listed level where he ran a place.
He was originally down to race at Warwick Farm on Wednesday but was scratched the morning of in favour of lining up here. That move signals intent from the stable, and if Hugh Bowman can produce him late, he’ll likely be finishing over the top of most of these.
Canterbury - Race 8 9:30pm AEDT
No. 9 Sweet Angeline
Sweet Angeline is back in Sydney after spending some time over in Western Australia.
This is her first start for the Waterhouse and Bott team, and this does look a nice race for her to kick off her new beginnings.
The Rubick mare absolutely loves this trip, evident in the fact she’s won four times from eight tries.
The wide gate is a slight issue, but she does like to get back and run on, so I expect her to be working home late.
