2022 Hollindale Stakes Day Preview

Feature racing in Queensland heads to the Gold Coast this Saturday afternoon with a stacked card of quality racing.

Our full 2022 Hollindale Stakes Day Preview can be found below.

Race 1 - 11:23am AEDT

Benchmark 78 Handicap (1400m)

The Lee Freedman trained Mix has put together a nice racing resume with five wins and five placings from 16 career race starts.

He worked to the line well when resuming at Doomben two weeks ago on the heavy track and the step up to 1400m will suit.

Race 2 - 11:58am AEDT

Bat Out Of Hell (900m)

Usmanov is a proven speedster over the short distances and he has only finished outside the top two on one occasion over 900m here on the Gold Coast.

He was beaten a length by the favourite Remlaps Gem last start but he meets that horse 1.5kgs better at the weights and he can turn the tables with a bit of luck in running.

Race 3 - 12:33pm AEDT

Gold Coast Cup (2400m)

La Baol was last seen running down the track in the Group 1 Sydney Cup a month ago but his form before that was pretty good.

He was beaten under three lengths in the Group 3 Sky High Stakes at Rosehill and he is one from two at this distance.

Race 4 - 1:08pm AEDT

Group 3 Ken Russell Memorial Classic (1200m)

The Chris Waller trained Robusto broke through for his maiden win back in February over 1300m at Warwick Farm mid week.

The son of Churchill won by almost four lengths that day and he was wayward throughout the straight.

He beat home the smart Williamsburg in that race and that colt went on to win at Group 3 level and place in the Group 1 Champagne Stakes.

With natural improvement and growth he will be a much better colt and he represents good value in this year’s Ken Russell Memorial Classic.

Race 5 - 1:43pm AEDT

Listed Silver Stocking (1400m)

I’m finding this a tough race to assess with many different form lines so I’ve gone wide with a progressive filly that has drawn well.

The Lee Freedman trained Guilia has won her last two in a row.

She was $1.50 when narrowly winning on the Gold Coast but they beat home the third horse by over two lengths and then she dominated with a two length win at Ipswich.

This is a step up in grade but she represents good value at $34 at time of publish.

Race 6 - 2:18pm AEDT

Listed Gold Coast Bracelet (1800m)

A couple of these fillies at the top of the market are dropping back in both class and distance in the Group 1 Australian Oaks but I’m willing to take them on as they ran into a heavy track that day.

Secret Tales is a progressive filly who hasn’t done a lot wrong so far this prep and comes into this race on the back of back to back by a combined 4.8 lengths.

Dynasties looked the winner at one stage in the straight in the Group 3 H.B Carr Stakes at Randwick before Espiona stamped her authority and raced away.

She was first up since December and will be fitter for the run.

James Mcdonald steers.

Race 7 - 2:53pm AEDT

Group 3 Gold Coast Guineas (1200m)

Me Me Lagarde was too far back on the turn when resuming in the Group 3 P J Bell Stakes at Randwick on the heavy track but she was doing her best work late.

She won the Listed Gold Edition at Eagle Farm during the Brisbane Summer carnival before finishing second in the Magic Millions Classic and is a filly with a fair amount of class in the Gold Coast Guineas field.

Race 8 - 3:33pm AEDT

Group 2 Hollindale Stakes (1800m)

Zaaki is one of the best race horses in the country and he comes to Queensland off the back of a very successful autumn campaign.

He backed up his dominate All Star Mile win with a narrow defeat to Think It Over in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth and this field does not compare to anything he was up against in that race.

1800m is ideal for him, he’s drawn perfectly in barrier four and anything over $1.50 is overs in the AD Hollindale Stakes.

Race 9 - 4:13pm AEDT

Listed ATC Trophy (1200m)

Salateen worked through the grades well during her last campaign putting together back to back wins including a Listed win at Doomben.

She was beaten three lengths in the Magic Millions fillies and mares race on the Gold Coast in January and this looks a nice race to kick start her winter campaign in.
