Warrnambool - Race 1 11:15am AEDT

No. 4 Blandford Lad

Open race, but it does look a nice one for Blandford Lad on the quick backup.

The son of Savabeel finished well down the straight at Sandown last week over 2400m, a run worth forgiving as he never really handled the heavy track.

His win the start prior in a hurdle race at Pakenham was full of merit and he’s typically done some of his best racing on rain-affected going. Fitter, he’ll go close.

Warrnambool - Race 3 12:15pm AEDT

No. 12 Fiery Red

Fiery Red has seen some strong support heading into this third-up assignment.

The five-year-old son of Pierro is coming off back-to-back placings at Sandown, the most recent of which saw him lead right up until the 100m mark where he was run down.

He’ll likely roll forward and give a good sight on the speed from barrier 6, and with some weight relief under Jordan Childs, he’ll take some catching.

Warrnambool - Race 7 2:30pm AEDT

No. 4 Britannicus

This is a strong edition of the Grand Annual Steeplechase, and I think Symon Wilde’s old boy Britannicus might just upset the lot.

There’s no jockey as I type, but he’s been showing real signs of wanting further ever since he won over 3450m here at Warrnambool back in March by 4.5L.

His next two starts at Pakenham and back at the ‘Bool have been full of merit, and he’s got enough runs on the board on soft tracks to suggest he’ll be a threat. Providing he sees the trip out for the first time, he’s in with a chance at odds.

Warrnambool - Race 9 3:55pm AEDT

No. 2 Grandslam

This is another strong edition of the Warrnambool Cup, and I can’t fault Grandslam out of the superior Maher and Eustace staying stable.

The four-year-old was enormous winning the Gold Heath at Caulfield a couple of weeks ago by a clear margin, a performance that suggests he’ll handle the step up to this trip for the first time.

He’s rock-hard fit now for three runs back, and with Jamie Kah retaining the ride with a few kg’s off, I think he’ll take a power of beating.
