Group racing returns to Caulfield this Saturday with a stellar card of racing to look forward to.

Our full 2022 Bletchingly Stakes Day Preview can be found below.

Race 1 - 12:05pm AEDT

2YO Handicap (1200m)

The Maher and Eustace trained Hafey resumes in the opening race of the day at Caulfield and was last seen finishing down the track in the Group 1 Blue Diamond in February at his second career race start.

The son of I Am Invincible was a dominant winner on debut by 3.75 lengths at Bendigo prior to that and this looks a nice race for him to kick start his campaign.

Race 2 - 12:40pm AEDT

2YO Handicap (1400m)

John Sadler has a handy two-year-old in the form of Manhattan Thunder, who was ultra impressive on debut at Sale two weeks ago.

He was near last when rounding the turn but when Jamie Mott asked him for an effort, he showed a quick turn of foot to win.

Damien Lane and barrier two are both positives.

Race 3 - 1:15pm AEDT

Benchmark 70 Handicap (1400m)

Awapuni Princess has been a consistent performer over her short racing career, placing in nine of 17 career starts.

She comes into this race off the back of two seconds in a similar grade of racing and she again looks well placed.

Race 4 - 1:50pm AEDT

3YO Handicap (2400m)

Forest Diamond is a very talented young staying filly which was evident when stringing together three wins on the trot earlier this prep.

Whilst she has been beaten in her last couple, she lost few admirers last start behind Calmsir where she looked the winner at the 200m.

The daughter of Redwood meets that horse better at the weights and has drawn perfectly in barrier three.

Race 5 - 2:25pm AEDT

VOBIS Gold Stayers (2400m)

The Vobis Gold Stayers is a really difficult race to get a firm handle on in my opinion and those at the top of the market are worth taking on.

Reflect The Stars is mare that is capable of producing a high rating performance on her day and although this is a better grade of race than she has been contending recently, she looks over the odds to my eye.

Race 6 - 3:05pm AEDT

3YO Handicap (1200m)

The Peter Moody trained Pounding returns to the track for the first time since March when he ran third in the Vobis Gold Reef at Flemington.

The son of Exceed and Excel has been placed in seven of his 13 career race starts this looks a nice race to start his campaign.

He has been really well supported in early betting which suggests he is ready to go without an official trial.

Race 7 - 3:45pm AEDT

3YO Handicap (1200m)

Moods has another handy young one in the seventh race of the afternoon in the shape of three-year-old filly Chain Of Lightning.

She kept her unbeaten record in tact when resuming with a two length win at Caulfield first up last month and they beat home the third horse by a further four.

Another that has found really good early support in betting.

Race 8 - 4:20pm AEDT

Group 3 Bletchingly Stakes (1200m)

Mariamia is a mare that has jumped to another level during this campaign and she is racing out of her skin.

She finished within a length and a half of the winner in the Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes at Eagle Farm before beaing beaten a similar margin in the Listed Civic Stakes at Randwick last time out.

A freshen up and nice barrier trial since then will have her primed for this trip south and she represents great each way value.

Race 9 - 4:52pm AEDT

Benchmark 78 Handicap (1400m)

Peter Moody has a good hand at Caulfield on Saturday but this may just be the best of them.

Lucky Decision is a talented middle distance three-year-old who has very competitive in group races during his autumn campaign.

This includes placings in the Group 2 Autumn Stakes and Autumn Classic at Caulfield and he closed out the prep when beaten 2.6 lengths in the Alister Clark Stakes at The Valley.

This is short of his preferred distance but he proved he is capable of a rating higher than this and his class will take him a long way.
