No. 1 Sunshine Rising
Sunshine Rising has been a difficult horse to follow, but he should appreciate the step back to the mile at this stage of his prep. The wet track and the wide run in transit were against him at Randwick last time out, but he should find firmer footing to his advantage now. This is a step back in class, and from a low barrier, he’ll likely get back early and save something for late.

No. 7 Loco
Loco has seen good early support ahead of this year’s South Australian Derby. The So You Think three-year-old won impressively on debut at Pakenham earlier in March and has since gone on to run a place in a handful of much tougher races. He was enormous in a three-way go for the line in the Chairman’s Stakes a couple of weeks ago, letting down beautifully to run a narrow second. He should appreciate a more genuine tempo this time, and despite the awkward gate, look for Damien Oliver to adopt similar tactics in transit.

No. 3 Star Vega
Star Vega looks the horse to beat in this year’s Adelaide Guineas. The lightly-raced Freedman gelding put the writing on the wall with an impressive 2.5 length win on debut at Benalla, stepping out at Sandown a few weeks later where he was unlucky to be denied in a protest. He clearly possesses a real turn of foot, and there’s been plenty to like about Mark Zahra’s form in the irons of late.

No. 9 Extremist
Extremist is a smart mare out of the Robert Heathcote yard that is deserving of a black-type win. She held her ground well for second on the Gold Coast last year in Tattersall’s Classic and has returned in good order finishing runner-up at Eagle Farm last month. This is a rise in grade, but she has some good second-up form on the resume and has done some of her best racing at
Doomben.
