No. 12 Gregolimo

The Coongy Cup looks a lovely race for Michael Moroney’s gelding Gregolimo.

The French import was making his first start in Australia a few weeks ago over the mile, giving away a big start before making up a stack of ground to run second at Flemington.

This is tougher, but out to his preferred distance now, he should run a huge race with some relief at the weights.

No. 3 Pesto

Pesto should be finishing off strongly if Jye McNeil can get back early from the soft gate.

The Hawkes-trained gelding was within a length of Strait Acer two runs back at Randwick, form that reads well with that same horse finishing runner-up in the Silver Eagle last Saturday.

Now at peak fitness with a couple of runs under his belt, the rise to 2400m looks ideal in his return to Melbourne.

No. 7 Shock ‘Em Ova

Shock ‘Em Ova is an in-form gelding for trainer Alex Rae that appears hard to beat.

The son of former Melbourne Cup winner Shocking has found the money in six of his seven starts, getting up to win narrowly over shorter a couple of weeks ago after being held up badly in the run home.

The rise to 2000m third-up should be right in his wheelhouse, and on recent form, his class should take him a long way.

No. 12 Fearless Writer

Fearless Writer has gone up a nice price heading into her second-up assignment.

The daughter of Written Tycoon was strong on return at Mornington against a small field, beaten just over two lengths by Extreme Step.

She won quite well at this stage of her prep at The Valley earlier in the year, and from the low gate, she should get a lovely cart into the race coming off the speed.
