We’re off to Doomben for Wednesday’s metropolitan meeting in Brisbane and seven races are on the card.

The rail will be set out a whopping 9.5 metres around the entire course and at publish, we’re faced with a track rated in the Soft (5) range.

Race 1 - 3:13pm AEDT

Girls Day Out On Sale Now C,G&E Maiden Plate (1200m)

Zinotar attracted plenty of interest in betting ahead of his debut, but dropped the rider and was therefore a non-finisher.

He showed some ability at the trials prior to that appearance, and he can kick off properly in Brisbane on Wednesday.

Stradbroke Season On Sale Now F&M Maiden Plate (1200m)

To Wish was fair in a similar race on debut here earlier this month and can break her maiden at Doomben this week.

The Fastnet Rock mare also stamped herself as one to keep an eye on with a few smart trials prior to her debut, and despite racing greenly, she was only a couple of lengths behind the winner.

With improvement for that experience, she can begin her rise through the grades.

Race 3 - 4:23pm AEDT

Sky Racing QTIS 3YO Maiden Plate (1650m)

There’s a case to be made for a few of them in this maiden race, including Surreal I Am.

Surreal I Am debuted to finish third, beaten less than half a length at Newcastle on Boxing Day, before turning in another fair effort for the same result behind Vanquished on the Gold Coast.

Fitter third-up, getting out to a mile this week looks to suit.

Cascade BM62 Handicap (1110m)

Great Aspirations resumes in an ideal race at Doomben on Wednesday.

The Savabeel gelding hasn’t been seen at the races since June, but he was an easy winning in maiden company at this point of his preparation last time in, and he wasn’t disgraced in a couple of tougher races in the wake.

He’s had the benefit of a sharp trial leading up to Wednesday’s return and he can use this as a launchpad into something bigger and better.

Race 5 - 5:33pm AEDT

Souths Sports Club BM75 Handicap (1050m)

Ring Of Steel couldn’t have been more impressive in a 0-65 contest at Eagle Farm last time out, and a repeat of that performance would see him winning again.

The I Am Invincible gelding has improved with each of three runs back this time and kicked clear to greet the judge almost five lengths ahead of his rivals last month.

He’s a few weeks between runs, but he boasts a class edge over these rivals and it does look the next logical step for him.

XXXX Gold BM62 Handicap (1650m)

It has been a short while between wins, but Thunder Mania will relish a drop in class at Doomben on Wednesday and might not be offered a better opportunity to win.

Thunder Mania has frequently finished midfield in decent Saturday metro company this time in, though he was well beaten by the likes of Texas at his latest.

There is no denying his fitness, the mile is his pet trip, and he is drawn a peach under Robbie Dolan this week.

Ladbrokes Odds Surge BM62 Handicap (1350m)

The consistent Crazy Brave rates as a key winning chance again this week.

Crazy Brave has missed placing only once in his last four trips to the races, and struck in BM68 company two back before running into an impressive Hollywood North last time out.

He takes his place this week a model of fitness and I can’t find a reason why he won’t be in the finish again.
