The Vinery Stud Stakes for three-year-old fillies is the first of two Group 1 feature races set to be contested at Rosehill Gardens on Stakes Day.

Won by the likes of Lucia Valentina, subsequent Melbourne Cup winner Verry Elleegant and Fangirl on their way towards stardom, the Vinery Stud Stakes always produces plenty of intrigue, and Saturday’s edition is set to be no exception.

The Australian debut of star Kiwi filly, Orchestral, is the major talking point, and she’ll go hoof-to-hoof with the likes of VRC Oaks winner, Zardozi, and other in-form fillies like Kimochi and Autumn Angel.

2024 Vinery Stud Stakes Betting Strategy

Same Race Multi:

  • No. 1 Orchestral (Win)
  • No. 4 Autumn Angel (Top 3)

1 – Orchestral (2)

Star Kiwi filly Orchestral makes her Australian debut in the Vinery Stud Stakes and has opened a clear odds-on favourite.

Orchestral has won five of eight career starts to date, placing second on two other occasions and continuing to improve with each start and has the bar has been raised.

She gave them a galloping lesson in the New Zealand Derby last time out and anything close to that performance sees her winning again this week. Clear standout top pick.

2 – Zardozi (7)

Zardozi is the only other Group 1 winner engaged in the Vinery Stud Stakes field and does look the key danger to Orchestral.

Having enjoyed a meteoric rise to prominence in the spring, culminating in a dominant VRC Oaks win, the Kingman filly finished down the order over 1400m at Randwick when resuming, but enjoyed big improvement into a dominant win over 1500m last time.

Fitter third-up and out to the 2000m this week, she’s sure to be right in the finish again.

3 – Kimochi (6)

Kimochi doesn’t know how to run a bad race, but it getting out to 2000m for this first time this week and is therefore in unfamiliar territory.

She raced consistently in the spring, ending her prep second in the Thousand Guineas, and returned to action this time to win the Group 2 Light Fingers.

She worked home well in open fillies and mare company to fill the minors in the Group 1 Coolmore Classic a fortnight ago and is drawn to receive every chance this week.

4 – Autumn Angel (5)

A filly that could prove to be over the odds in 2024 Vinery Stud Stakes betting is Victorian raider, Autumn Angel ($10 at publish).

Auutmn Angel has missed placing only once in seven career starts so far, and it was a luckless run over the 1400m of the Angus Armanasco Stakes two back.

Having returned to winning form with an eye-catching performance in the Group 2 Kewney Stakes last time out, the step up to 2000m this week looks absolutely perfect for her, while the booking of Jamie Kah certainly doesn’t hinder her chances.

5 – Tutta La Vita (4)

Tutta La Vita filled the minors of the Group 1 Surround Stakes at her first run back from a break but was extremely disappointing when seventh, beaten nearly three lengths as favourite in the Kembla Grange Classic.

It has been around nine months since her first and only career win to date, and big improvement is required for her to fight out the finish of something like this.

6 – Queen Of Dragons (3)

Queen Of Dragons returned to winning form at double-figure odds in the Kembla Grange Classic a couple of weeks ago.

She’s open to plenty of improvement third-up from a spell and has typically improved as she has gotten further out in trip in previous preparations.

She rates as a live chance to finish in the first three or four in the Vinery Stud Stakes 2024.

7 – Mare Of Mt Buller (3)

Mare Of Mt Buller faces a decent rise in class into the 2024 Vinery Stud Stakes field, but she has been excellent this time in and is worthy of a crack at the highest level.

Having hit the line in maiden company at Kembla Grange in her first run back, the Dundeel filly has added victories in BM64 company and a BM72 race at Rosehill last month, and she has been kept up to the mark with a recent trial.

While it is difficult to argue with winning form, others have more appeal this week.

8 – Our Gold Hope (1)

Our Gold Hope steps out this week in peak order and followed a decent effort for second, beaten a length in the Kembla Grange Classic.

She went up at long Vinery Stud Stakes odds and has continued to drift as attention has been focused on several key rivals.

9 – Piplup (9)

Piplup broke her maiden over 2000m at Hawkesbury at her latest outing and has gone up at Vinery Stud Stakes odds of $201.

This is a genuine throw at the stumps from trainer Brad Widdup.

10 – True Fairy (8)

The Ballina-trained True Fairy is another that faces a huge rise in class into the 2024 Vinery Stud Stakes field, and she too has gone up at triple-figure odds.

It’s hard to make a case for her in a race of this quality.
