Sandown will host Melbourne’s major metropolitan meeting on Saturday, June 15th and nine races are on the program.
There has been inclement weather surrounding Melbourne for much of the week and at publish, we’re faced with a track rated in the soft (6) range, while the rail will be set out five metres around the entire course.
Check out my complete Sandown Tips and Preview below.
Race 1 - 11:50am
Set A Deposit Limit Handicap (1000m)
Husk takes winning form into this contest and can make it two in a row.
The Team Hawkes-trained filly finish third on debut back in December and was immediately put away, and she was very impressive in her first run back here last month.
This is a tougher race, but she’s open to improvement and can win again.

Race 2 - 12:25pm
IVE Handicap (1400m)
I’m happy to five Mogwai another chance at Sandown on Saturday.
Mogwai returned to winning form second-up at Kembla Grange last month, but nothing went right at Rosehill Gardens last time and I am happy to put a line through that effort.
He’s hard fit this week, the 1400m looks to suit and Jaylah Kennedy is riding in good form.

Race 3 - 1pm
Vale Fr Brendan Dillon (1400m)
Truffle Finder takes winning form into this race and can make it two in a row.
The Clinton McDonald-trained gelding has been racing in strong and consistent form this time and was rewarded with a sharp win at Cranbourne last time out.
The form out of that race has been franked, and this horse can continue hir rise through the grades.

Race 4 - 1:35pm
Evergreen Turf Handicap (1300m)
Batrana is second-up and primed to strike.
The Tony & Calvin McEvoy-trained filly turned in some smart performances last time in, winning in BM64 company most notably and ending her prep with a run in Listed company.
I thought her fresh performance at Caulfield this time was excellent and with natural improvement, I think this is a perfect target for her.

Race 5 - 2:10pm
Benchmark 74 Handicap (1600m)
This looms as the most open race on the program and at publish, we’re faced with $7 the field.
Blue Moon has found the line well at each of two runs back and is ready to peak third-up on Saturday.
The Shocking mare has turned in plenty of sharp performances throughout her career, finding form around some good ones since arriving in Australia.
A mile suits, as does an inside draw, and we can have an each way play at the price.

Race 6 - 2:45pm
Quayclean Handicap (1600m)
Hard To Cross is chasing a hat-trick when he steps out in Race 6 at Sandown on Saturday.
The All Too Hard gelding stripped fitter for a nice effort for third in BM70 company at Flemington when resuming and hasn’t looked back, recording consecutive victories at this track and trip.
He has been charged with carrying topweight but should receive every chance in running from barrier 5.

Race 7 - 3:25pm
LockettLED.au Handicap (1000m)
The consistent Mrs Chrissie strikes another winnable race at Sandown this week.
Mrs Crissie has been up and racing for a while, but she returned to winning form at Caulfield two back before finishing second behind an impressive Wondereach here last time.
Fitness certainly isn’t an issue, while a drop in the weights this week is also beneficial.

Race 8 - 4:05pm
Tile Importer Handicap (1400m)
Another open race with several key winning chances engaged, including Windstorm.
The Redoute’s Choice gelding has won seven of his fifteen career starts so far, running second a further three times and finding form around some quality opposition, particularly earlier in his career in Perth.
His first run for the Bedggood yard last month was a really good one, and any improvement on that will see him into the finish again.

Race 9 - 4:35pm
Race Replays Handicap (1800m)
Jimmy The Bear is hard fit and ready to win.
His first two runs back from a break this time were promising, while he simply got too far back in a race that wasn’t run to suit last time out.
1800m and the long straight at Sandown should be ideal for him this week.
