Black type racing returns to Warwick Farm this Wednesday.
After torrential rain forced the abandonment of Saturday’s Randwick meeting, the Listed Civic Stakes was a late addition to this weeks midweek meeting.
The feature event event will headline an exciting eight race card with the rail in the true position.
The track is currently rated a heavy 9 and thankfully there is only a very minimal chance of rain on the day.
We’ve had a close look at all eight races on the program and our thoughts can be found below.
Race 1 - 12:25pm AEST
EXCEEDANCE @VINERY STUD HANDICAP 2YO FILLIES (1100 METRES)
There was a lot to like about the debut performance of Vanessi.
Over this course and distance, the Chris Waller trained filly settled midfield in the run and didn’t have a lot of room in the early part of the straight.
She did pick up nicely over the final part and will have taken plenty of natural improvement from the outing.
She’s drawn to get a cosy run and if Tommy Berry can navigate a clear path, she should be right there at the finish.
1 unit – VANESSI
Race 2 - 1:00pm AEST
VALE DAVID MILLS HANDICAP 2YO C&G (1100 METRES)
Tarpaulin kicks of his campaign.
The Harry Angel colt made his debut back in December, where he was held up in the early part of the straight but finished off nicely in the 1100m event at Randwick.
Sent to the paddock following that run, he comes here off two very pleasing Warwick Farm trials.
On both occasions he’s worked to the line strongly under very little pressure and has looked to have plenty in hand.
James McDonald was onboard in his most recent trial and he takes the mount here on the James Cummings trained youngster.

Race 3 - 1:35pm AEST
DRINKWISE PLATE MAIDEN SW (1100 METRES)
Gram returns to the races.
Prepared by the Godolphin team, the son of Exceed And Excel just had the one race start in the Max Lees Classic, before heading to the paddock.
In the 900m dash, he settled back last and worked home strongly over the final part.
Given plenty of time to mature, he looks to have come back in top order following two very impressive trials.
His most recent over 900m saw him taken back and power home down the outside to win the heat under a hold.
He does have the wide draw to overcome but gets the services of James McDonald.

Race 4 - 2:10pm AEST
TAB HANDICAP (1300 METRES)
Llanddwyn has been fishing off well and looks ideally placed with the rise in trip.
She had no luck at all when resuming over 1200m at Canterbury and her past two starts over 1100m have seen her doing her best work late.
The daughter of Deep Field has showed good ability and hasn’t always had things go her way but there’s a bit to like about her here.
Nash Rawiller will do the steering, she drops 2kg drop in the weights and is proven in the conditions.
1 unit E/W – LLANDDWYN
Race 5 - 2:45pm AEST
GOLDEN MILE @DARLEY HANDICAP BM72 (1600 METRES)
Danish Prince has been racing well and presents here hard fit.
It’s been a long time between drinks for the Dane Shadow gelding but he looks to have plenty in his favour here.
He crossed the line in first place two runs back but lost the race on protest after he was found to have shifted in over the final part, hampering the runner up.
Last start, he again took up the running but was just collared late and stuck on gamely despite his rider dropping the whip 300m out.
A runner up in both outings over this track and distance, he has great wet track stats and gets Tim Clark in the saddle.
1 unit – DANISH PRINCE
Race 6 - 3:20pm AEST
HYLAND RACE COLOURS BM72 HANDICAP (1300 METRES)
Kerguelen takes the leap from maiden grade but the son of Lonhro could not have been more impressive when scoring on debut.
Over 1200m at Kembla Grange, the Godolphin galloper travelled three deep outside the leaders in the early part before pressing forward to take up the lead.
When given his cue at the top of the straight, he lengthened out beautifully to post a 9.5 length margin on the line with his ears pricked.
With five weeks since that outing, the team have given him a 1050m trial to keep him up to the mark, where James McDonald just gave him an easy time of things and he sticks with him here.
1 unit – KERGUELEN
Race 7 - 3:55pm AEST
THE AGENCY CIVIC STAKES LISTED (1400 METRES)
Estadio Mestalla has performed very well in two runs back from a break and will appreciate the slight step up in trip.
He didn’t have the best of luck when resuming in the Takeover Target, where after getting shuffled right back, he was doing his best work late.
Last start he just got too far back once again and charged home late to finish just on the heels of the placegetters.
A winner of two from three third up, he looks ready to peak and with 53kgs on his back and some luck in running, he’ll be right there at the finish.
1 unit – ESTADIO MESTALLA
Race 8 - 4:30pm AEST
MAURICE AT ARROWFIELD BM72 HANDICAP (1100 METRES)
Rain Lord was a bit plain when resuming off a long break on the Hillside last month but the gelding will have taken plenty of improvement from the run.
Having his first start back after ten months off the scene, he travelled well throughout but just looked to peak on his run late.
The team have since given him a 800m jump out, where he cruised to the line under very little pressure to win the heat comfortably.
He boasts a terrific overall record and looks well placed dropping back in grade.
Jett Stanley goes onboard for Peter and Paul Snowden and will take 2kgs off.
