Canterbury hosts Sydney’s midweek metropolitan program on September 18th and seven races will be run and won.

We’re well and truly into the thick of the Sydney Spring and the depth of talent engaged in these metropolitan programs is at a high.

I’ve run the rule over every horse engaged and you can find my complete Canterbury tips below.

Race 1 - 1:25pm

Drinkwise Plate (1100m)

Eton is on debut at Canterbury on Wednesday, and I think it can be a winning start.

By I Am Invincible and out of multiple Group 1 winner English, Eton has trialled very well ahead of today’s debut and has come up at odds of $7.50 (at publish).

Under Timmy Clark, we can have a small each way play.

Race 2 - 2pm

Exceedance’s First Yearlings Handicap (1250m)

Mergeila turned in a nice performance on debut and can break her maiden this week at Canterbury.

The Justify filly shows some promise at the trials prior to debuting and worked home well behind Mayfair and Mawjood at Rosehill in July.

She’s been kept up to the mark with a trial since then and should improve for that experience.

Race 3 - 2:35pm

Vale Graham McNeice Handicap (1250m)

Need Some Luck resumes in a very winnable race on Wednesday.

The Peter Snowden-trained gelding turned in some decent performances last time in, recording an easy win in BM78 company here most notably, while he’s had the benefit of a couple of trials leading up to this return.

He can use this as a stepping stone into something stronger.

Race 4 - 3:10pm

James Squire Handicap (1900m)

I’m keen to give Unlimited another chance when he goes around at Canterbury on Wednesday.

Unlimited finished down the order in a stronger race over a mile at Randwick last time out, but his form prior to that was promising, and he filled the minors behind West Of Africa two back.

He steps out this week in peak order and is drawn well under James McDonald.

Race 5 - 3:45pm

Benchmark 72 Handicap (1580m)

Little Jeanie is second-up and primed for another good effort this week at Canterbury.

Little Jeanie was a model of consistency last time in, and she worked home well to fill the minors in a similar race at Warwick Farm a couple of weeks ago.

She’s a winner here at Canterbury previously and should receive every chance under Tommy Berry.

Race 6 - 4:20pm

Ranvet Handicap (1100m)

Shines is the one for me first-up from a spell in Race 6 at Canterbury.

The Team Hawkes-trained galloper has been seen at the races since May, but he raced well in contested not dissimilar to this one last time in, and he found form around some quality opposition.

A recent trial effort adds further confidence to his chances here.

Race 7 - 4:55pm

Precise Air Handicap (1250m)

Seascape takes winning form into this contest and looks well placed to make it two in a row.

The I Am Invincible filly has only made four appearances at the races since debuting, but she has won twice and steps out this week following her best effort to date.

She strips fitter for it, and I can’t find a reason why she won’t be in the finish again.
