One of the biggest and best weeks of Spring Carnival action continues at Caulfield on Wednesday!

Bookended by Guineas Day and Caulfield Cup Day, Caulfield Social Day features some outstanding contests including the Coongy Cup, offering its winner ballot-free entry into Saturday’s $5 million feature.

I’ve run the rule over that race and the remaining seven, and you can find all of my Caulfield Social Day tips below.

Race 1 - 1:40pm AEDT

Tobin Brothers Celebrating Lives Handicap (2000m)

Kicking off my day with something on Flamin’ Romans in the first.

Flamin’ Romans is a full brother to Group 1 winner, Smokin’ Romans, and he has returned to the races an improved galloper this time, missing the placings just once in five appearances.

Having struck in Saturday metro company down in Adelaide two back, he was only just denied over this route last time out and in peak order, I’m confident he can go one better.

IVE Handicap (1600m)

Treasurethe Moment is yet to turn in a poor performance and looms as the one of beat again in Race 2 at Caulfield on Wednesday.

The Alabama Express filly has recorded two wins and as many second placings from just four starts and returned to winning form with an eye-catching effort over 1400m at Sandown last time out.

Fitter third-up, the mile looks suitable at this point of her preparation, and this looks the next logical target for her.

Race 3 - 2:50pm AEDT

HKJC World Pool At Caulfield On Saturday (2400m)

This is an open race with plenty of chances engaged, and I thought that Golf Wolf was one that represented value at current odds ($13 at publish).

Gold Wolf finished down the order in a stronger Saturday race over 1800m here when resuming, but took improved into a decent performance when fifth, beaten just over a length over 2000m last time out.

Winding back to his autumn prep, he found his best form with a couple of runs under his belt and out to the mile and a half, and he gets all of that on Wednesday.

Listed Magic Millions Debutant Stakes (1000m)

Everything in the Debutant Stakes, incredibly, is on debut, and while that does make for a tougher form analysis, I’m going to have something small on Victory Tune.

By Too Darn Hot, Victory Tune turned in an eye-catching trial performance on the Heath track here at Caulfield earlier this month and looks forward enough to win.

Race 5 - 4pm AEDT

Benchmark 70 Handicap (1440m)

Another wide-open race, but I thought that New York Hurricane had claims at nice odds ($8.50 at publish).

New York Hurricane was well beaten by the likes of Lauding at The Valley last time out, but his form prior to that was sound, and included a dominant win in metro company down in Adelaide.

He’s been freshened, he gets some relief in the weights under Jaylah Kennedy’s claim, and we can have something on each way.

Race 6 - 4:35pm AEDT

Schweppes Handicap (1440m)

This is a lovely race for Verdad, and I think he’s going to take a power of beating.

The Justify gelding returned to action with a nice performance behind Miss Aria at The Valley, and he backed that up with a near miss over 1400m at Sandown.

Fitter third-up, over the 1400m and from an inside draw, he’s my best bet on the program.

Race 7 - 5:10pm AEDT

Henley Homes Handicap (1100m)

Nadal clearly needed his first run back from a break to dust off the cobwebs, but I’m confident he’ll take big improvement into this contest.

Nadal turned in some fine performances last time in, filling the minors in last year’s Run To The Rose and ultimately ending his prep a credible sixth in the Coolmore.

Having spent ten months away from competition, the Xtravagant gelding was good, if not a little in need of the run when fourth behind Moby Dick at Flemington last month. He strips fitter and this is almost certainly a weaker race.

Group 3 Coongy Cup (2000m)

Great edition of the Coongy Cup and as a horse back in form, I’m keen to stick with Berkeley Square.

Berkeley Square has picked off some lovely races throughout his career, and after returning to action behind Another Wil here back in August, he’s since recorded consecutive wins at Flemington and Sandown under the urgings of Jaylah Kennedy.

He’s hard fit, gets pet conditions and with even luck, I think he can win.
