Black type racing heads to Sandown on 2025 Chairman’s Stakes Day!
An exciting field of juveniles will look to join names like Loving Gaby, Extreme Choice and Redoute’s Choice on the Chairman’s Stakes honour roll, while a strong edition of the Bellmaine Stakes will see some standout mares chase vital black type.
Read on for all of my Sandown tips.
Race 1 - 12:15pm AEDT
John Moule Handicap (1200m)
New Yorke Lustre has recorded two wins from as many runs back from a break, and she couldn’t have been more impressive at Flemington three weeks ago.
Fitter third-up and from an inside barrier, she looks beautifully placed to go on with it.

Henley Homes Handicap (2400m)
First Immortal strikes a winnable race this week.
The Churchill gelding is yet to strike in three runs back form a break, but there’s no denying his fitness this week, in what looks to be one of the weaker tasks he’s been set.
Out to the mile and a half looks suitable and he should receive every chance in this small field.

Robert Hunter Handicap (2400m)
Open race with plenty of winning chances engaged, and I thought that Roaring Engine was one that appealed at odds.
Roaring Engine won over 2500m at The Valley back in December, while his last two starts have seen him finish midfield at The Valley and Flemington.
He’s a fit horse and should be able to land in a nice position from the rails draw, and we can have something on each way at double-figure odds (at publish).

IVE Handicap (1400m)
Quebeck rates as a winning chance again on Chairman’s Stakes Day.
The Rubick gelding returned to action for consecutive wins at Colac and Cranbourne, while he was only beaten a length by Rubology in a decent BM74 last time out.
In peak order this week, something like this doesn’t appear beyond him.

Group 3 Chairman’s Stakes (1000m)
Just two horses in this year’s Chairman’s Stakes field have previous raceday experience and I’m keen to have something on debutant, Hot Sea.
Hot Sea is well-bred, and she has won a pair of trials in the lead-up to this race. She looks forward enough to win.

Quayclean Handicap (1000m)
Happy to give Mighty another chance third-up from a spell.
The former Queenslander returned to action to only just miss behind Fickle at The Valley last month, while she finished midfield in BM78 company at Flemington last time out.
Fitter third-up, back to 1000m and under Blake Shinn, this looks her chance to win.

Race 7 - 3:40pm AEDT
Mal Seccull Handicap (1800m)
Emphasize looks to have plenty of ability and can win again on Chairman’s Stakes Day.
The Embellish gelding finished third, beaten only a length by Zorro’s Flight at Sale on debut and got ride of his maiden with a dominant effort last time out.
Another rise in trip looks very suitable for him this week and he has plenty of upside.

Race 8 - 4:15pm AEDT
Benchmark 78 Handicap (1800m)
Revelare is a galloper in form and looks a great chance for the hat-trick at Sandown on Saturday.
Revelare was only denied by a fit Castle On High at Seymour first-up this preparation, but he has since been dominant in a 0-64 at Seymoure, and a BM70 right here at Sandown.
This looks a great opportunity to transition back into Saturday metro company, and I can’t find a reason why he won’t be in the finish.

Race 9 - 4:55pm AEDT
Group 3 Bellmaine Stakes (1200m)
After placing in featured company at each of her first two starts back this campaign, Miraval Rose was rewarded with a deserved victory in Listed company last time out.
The Bellmaine Stakes looks another lovely race for her, and she should be afforded every opportunity again from Barrier 2.

Lethal Thoughts is third up and ready to win.
The So You Think gelding dusted off the cobwebs with a fair effort behind Mollynickers at Geelong and kept his best work for late when second to Is It Me at Flemington a fortnight ago.
Fitter third-up and staying at the 1400m, this looks beautiful placement from Ciaron Maher once again.
