No. 4 Track Patcher

I’m siding with Victorian raider Track Patcher in this afternoon’s Tasmanian Derby in Hobart.

Track Patcher has missed placing just once in five trips to the races so far, and he was last seen finishing second behind the promising Cat Noir over 1733m at Geelong.

He’s hard fit, getting further out in trip looks ideal, and he should be afforded every opportunity in this small field.

No. 2 Star Rapper

Star Rapper is second-up and primed to strike this evening at The Valley.

The Nick Ryan-trained gelding showed promise at the trials prior to debuting before working home well behind Gala Queen at Pakenham last month.

With improvement for that experience and under Blake Shinn this time, he can begin his rise through the grades.

No. 4 In Her Stride

The Mystic Journey Stakes looks a lovely feature race for the resuming In Her Stride.

In Her Stride hasn’t been seen at the races since August, but she turned in some fine performances up on the mainland last time in, and she boasts an excellent fresh record.

She’s turned in a couple of nice trial performances ahead of her return and with even luck in running, I think she’ll be hard to hold out.

No. 1 Malleteir

Malleteir has enjoyed a smart start to his racing career, and he can go on with it tonight at The Valley.

Having filled the minors at Bendigo on debut, beaten half a length, the Nicconi gelding has since recorded consecutive and dominant victories at Wangaratta at Pakenham.

This is another rise in class, but it looks the next logical step to take, and he has plenty of upside.
