Our 2025 Australian Guineas Day preview covers the racing at Flemington on Saturday. Headquarters will host one of the Melbourne Autumn Carnival’s most prestigious meetings, headlined by the time-honoured Australian Guineas.
Won by the likes of Miss Finland, Shamus Award and Alligator Blood during through its storied history, the Australian Guineas field is full of talent again this year and there is a case to be made for many of them.
You can find all of my 2025 Australian Guineas Day best bets below!
Race 1 - 12:15pm AEDT
2YO Handicap (1000m)
Shining Smile is unbeaten this time in and looms as the one to beat again in the first on Australian Guineas Day.
The Spirit Of Boom colt was too good for them in the Blue Diamond Preview C&G when resuming and franked that performance by winning the Talindert Stakes last time out.
The form out of that race has been franked and this bloke can win again.

Race 2 - 12:45pm AEDT
Racing And Sports 2000 (2000m)
Kings Valley has been racing in strong and consistent form this time and gets a great chance to win again on Australian Guineas Day.
The Territories gelding hasn’t missed the placings at his last six trips to the races, winning three times and only just being denied by an in-form Revelare here a fortnight ago.
In peak order, I can’t find a reason why he won’t be in the finish again.

Race 3 - 1:20pm AEDT
VOBIS Gold Comet (1000m)
This lucrative VOBIS race looks an ideal campaign launchpad for She’s Got Pizzazz.
She’s Got Pizzazz hasn’t been seen at the races since November, but she was excellent last time in, winning two of three starts, including the Twilight Glow Stakes at her latest appearance.
She’s had the benefit of a couple of trials ahead of her return and she gets into this race well under the conditions.

Race 4 - 1:55pm AEDT
The All-Star Mile Owner Ambassador Trophy (1200m)
This is an open race with several winning chances engaged, but I am going to have something on Wolfy.
Wolfy was an eye-catching winner right here at Flemington two starts back, while he kept his best work for late at the Caulfield Heath two back and finished on the placegetters’ heels.
The booking of Mark Zahra adds confidence this week, while the horse has a key fitness edge over several key rivals.

Race 5 - 2:30pm AEDT
Good Friday Appeal Plate (1100m)
Another quality race with a case to be made for many of them, and I am going to have something on Peridot Star.
Peridot Star went to the paddock after recording consecutive race wins at Pakenham back in August, and he picked up where he left off with a dominant effort in BM64 company.
There’s no doubt that this is harder, but he is open to plenty of improvement and did win his only other second-up task to date.

Race 6 - 3:05pm AEDT
The Schweppes Plate (1400m)
Enxuto is chasing the hat-trick when he steps out on Australian Guineas Day.
The classy son of Lean Mean Machine was a dominant winner of a BM64 at Sandown back in January, and he franked that by winning a BM70 at the same track a week later.
He does face another rise in class here, but I like that he’s been kept up to the mark with a trial, and the booking of Craig Williams adds further confidence.

Race 7 - 3:40pm AEDT
Group 2 Blamey Stakes (1600m)
I’m keen on Steparty in this year’s Blamey Stakes.
Steparty hasn’t won a race for a short while, but he has returned a consistent performer this season, and after running second to Schwarz in the Australia Stakes in January, he worked home well to fill the minors behind Another Wil and Mr Brightside in the CF Orr Stakes last time out.
There are no horses of that ability engaged in this race, while getting out to a mile looks ideal at this point of his preparation.

Race 8 - 4:15pm AEDT
Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m)
I’m going to have a couple of bets in this year’s Australian Guineas, the first being on Angel Capital.
Having won first and second up last time in, Angel Capital had clearly had enough by the time he went around in the Caulfield Guineas and finished sixth.
The Harry Angel colt returned to action with arguably the best performance of his career to win the Autumn Stakes at Caulfield three weeks ago, and with natural improvement and getting out to a mile, he looks ideally suited.
Another horse that represents each way value in 2025 Australian Guineas betting in Goldrush Guru.
Goldrush Guru was an outstanding winner of the VRC Derby back in November, while he has improved for two starts back this time, finishing fourth in the CS Hayes Stakes over 1400m last time out.
There’s no doubt that he’ll improve third-up and out to a mile, and Jamie Melham adds further confidence.

Race 9 - 4:55pm AEDT
Inglis Sprint (1200m)
I’m keen to see Gatsby’s second-up in the Inglis Sprint this weekend.
Following a dominant fresh performance in the Rosebud back in August, Gatsby’s didn’t quite live up to expectations throughout his spring preparation, but he did return to action to fill the minors in the Eskimo Prince Stakes up at Randwick in February.
His only other start down the straight at Flemington saw him finish a credible fifth in Group 1 company, and he’s another horse that is open to plenty of improvement.
2 Units Gatsby’s
Race 10 - 5:35pm AEDT
Furphy Trophy (1600m)
Aramco turned in a competitive performance fresh from a break and can return to winning form in the last on Australian Guineas Day.
The Sea The Moon gelding has been a great horse for the Waller yard through fifteen career starts, winning five times and finding form around some handy metro opposition.
He’s two from two at this point of his preparation and Flemington has been a particularly happy hunting ground.
