Our 2025 Randwick Guineas Day preview focuses on the Sydney racing action on Saturday where another two Group 1 feature races headline an exciting card at Royal Randwick!
The track is rated in the Soft (5) range on Wednesday afternoon, but with plenty of rain forecast throughout the remainder of the week, that number will almost certainly change.
The rail will be set out three metres around the course, and you can find all of my Randwick best bets below, including Canterbury Stakes tips!
Race 1 - 12:20pm AEDT
Midway Handicap (1600m)
We were with Rush Attack when he won a similar race a fortnight ago and I don’t see any reason to jump off this week.
Rush Attack returned to action to finish second, beaten a nose in BM68 company at Newcastle and hit the line to win in a photo at Rosehill last time out.
Fitter third-up and out to a mile, he can fight out the finish again.

Race 2 - 12:55pm AEDT
Listed Fireball Stakes (1100m)
The Fireball Stakes is a nice kick-off point for the talented Yoshinobu.
Yoshinobu won each of his first two runs back in the spring, and after placing behind Switzerland in the Group 2 Roman Consul Stakes, he was outclassed in the Coolmore on Derby Day.
A couple of recent trial performances have suggested he has furnished into a better horse, and the addition of James McDonald obviously doesn’t hurt his chances either.

Race 3 - 1:30pm AEDT
Group 2 Reisling Stakes (1200m)
I was keen on Inkaruna ahead of last weekend’s Sweet Embrace Stakes before her scratching, and this looks to be a slightly weaker race.
Inkaruna has only made one competitive appearance at the races so far, but she mustered a smart turn of foot to win the Group 3 Chairman’s Stakes down at Sandown.
With natural improvement, she’ll be hard to hold out again in the Reisling Stakes 2025.

Race 4 - 2:05pm AEDT
Group 2 Todman Stakes (1200m)
I’m very keen on Wodeton third-up in the Todman Stakes.
He couldn’t have been more impressive on debut, while he lost the services of James McDonald last time out, who was aboard when the horse finished third in the Skyline Stakes.
With further improvement for that experience, McDonald climbing back into the saddle and an ideal barrier, I’m confident that Wodeton will reaffirm himself as the one to beat in the Golden Slipper.

Race 5 - 2:40pm AEDT
Group 3 Aspiration Quality (1600m)
Hinged has mixed her form a little in recent seasons, but we can’t forget that she is a Group 1 winner and when she puts it all together, she’s still more than up to this level.
She clearly needed her fresh run in Millie Fox to blow out the cobwebs and she does rise in the weights this week, but an ideal barrier and the booking of James McDonald are two major factors that can contribute to a return to winning form in the Aspiration Quality.

Group 2 Challenge Stakes (1000m)
In my opinion, the Challenge Stakes is a perfect race for Mazu.
Mazu hasn’t won a race for nearly a year, but I thought that he was far from disgraced in Group 1 company down in Melbourne when resuming and is subsequently open to good improvement.
He boasts an excellent record here at Randwick and he is a horse that only improves the heavier a track gets, and with plenty of rain forecast in Sydney for the rest of the week, he’s one that will absolutely love it.

Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m)
Unsurprisingly, Broadsiding has opened a dominant favourite in 2025 Randwick Guineas betting.
The multiple Group 1 winner is just the best horse in his age group here in Australia, and he returned to action to win the Hobartville Stakes impressively.
With natural improvement, I think he’ll win again, but he’s too short for me at that price, so I am going to select him as the winner in a Same Race Multi and pump up my odds with Aeliana running into the first three.
She’s a jet in her own right, and she’s another that I think will improve noticeably second up this week.
Same Race Multi selections:
- No. 1 Broadsiding (Win)
- No. 9 Aeliana (Top 3)
Race 8 - 4:30pm AEDT
Group 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m)
This is one of the strongest editions of the Canterbury Stakes that I can remember, there really is case to be made for a number of them, but I’m keen to have something on Ceolwulf.
Dropping back to the 1300m here is interesting, but he’s a horse that tends to enjoy sharp second up improvement and clearly, he is just one of the classiest horses engaged in the race.
He’s up at odds of $9 (at publish) and in my opinion, that’s the best each way bet on the program.

Race 9 - 5:10pm AEDT
Listed Randwick City Stakes (2000m)
Alalcance resumes in an open edition of the Randwick City Stakes.
The Mastercraftsman mare hasn’t been seen at the races since December, but she as excellent during her Australian debut preparation and didn’t finish worse than second in three appearances.
She’s had the benefit of a couple of trials ahead of her autumn prep and I think she’ll return a better horse this time.
She is yet to gain a start as the field’s third emergency, but the $7 about her (at publish) looks great value to me if she does run.

Race 10 - 5:50pm AEDT
Group 3 Wenona Girl Quality (1200m)
I’m keen to stick with Clear Thinking when she goes around third up in the Wenona Girl Quality.
Clear Thinking returned to action for a smart win in a Highway Handicap over this route in January, and while there were question marks over her stepping up into black type company in the Triscay Stakes last month, she was only just denied.
With further improvement and even luck in running, this looks her race.
