Dusan Lajovic vs Christopher O’Connell
7.15pm

Back O’Connell to Win @ $2.15

Australian journeyman Christopher O’Connell gets his clay swing underway at the Bucharest Open against Croatia’s Dusan Lajovic.

World No.87 O’Connell had a modest Sunshine Double, beating Roberto Carbaelles Baena at Indian Wells before losing to Matteo Berrettini in the second round, then going down to Carballes Baena in the first round in Miami.

Arguably his best performance so far in 2025 was taking Tommy Paul to five sets in the first round of the Australian Open.

Ranked outside the top 100, 34-year-old Lajovic is an out-and-out clay specialist who reached the Monte-Carlo Masters final in 2019. He made the seis of a Challenger event in Spain last week after failing to qualify for the Miami Masters.

O’Connell has had some success below ATP level on clay, however, and is a tempting underdog in this one.

Maria Sakkari vs Marina Stakusic
12.00am

Back Sakkari to Cover the Games Handicap (-5.5) @ $1.90

Sliding former top-10 star Maria Sakkari lines up against Canadian Marina Stakusic in the first round of the Charleston Open.

Sakkari has tumbled to 64th in the rankings after losing her second matches at both Indian Wells and the Miami Masters to Coco Gauff, following wins over Viktoriya Tomova and Lucia Bronzetti, respectively.

It’s been a tough start to 2025 for the Greek powerhouse, following an injury that sidelined her after the US Open.

Twenty-year-old Stakusic, ranked 126th, lost in qualifying for both Sunshine Double events, before losing to Heather Watson in the quarters of last week’s Puerto Vallarta Open.

In one of her more notable results to date, Stakusic beat Sorana Cirstea at the Transylvania Open in February.

The enigmatic Sakkari, whose clay CV includes semi-finals at the French Open, and Madrid and Rome Masters, showed enough in California and Florida to suggest she’ll win this one easily.

Colton Smith vs James Duckworth
2.00am

Back Duckworth to Cover the Set Handicap (+1.5) @ $2.05

Veteran Aussie James Duckworth faces American qualifier in the first round of the US Men’s Clay Court Chamionships.

The 33-year-old Duckworth, ranked 89th, is coming off a run to the final of a Challenger in Mexico, where he was the top seed. He lost in qualifying for both Sunshine Double events, while his most recent tour-level match was a three-set loss to Casper Ruud in Dallas.

Smith defeated Evan Zhu and Liam Draxl in straight sets in qualifying. He recently beat Flavio Cobolli at Indian Wells on ATP 1000 debut, before going down to Alex Michelsen.

The world No.200 kept the momentum going with wins over Alexander Shevchenko and Roman Safiullin in a Phoenix Challenger. Whether that’s enough to justify $1.25 favouritism for the tour newcomer in this clash is debatable.

Michael Mmoh vs Adam Walton
2.00am

Back Walton to Win @ $1.91

The market can barely split American Michael Mmoh and Aussie Adam Walton ahead of their US Men’s Clay Court Championships encounter.

The pair met for the first time recently in Indian Wells qualifying, with Walton taking a 6-4 2-6 6-1 result.

World No.85 Walton went on to beat Giulio Zeppieri in the first round, then lost to Denis Shapovalov. That preceded a surprise run to the last 16 in Miami, the 25-year-old getting a first-round bye as a lucky loser then beating Luciano Darderi and Coleman Wong.

Injuries have hampered Mmoh since he rose to a career-high No.81 in late-2023; he currently sits outside the top 250. Encouraged by some decent results in Dallas and Delray Beach, Mmoh lost to Francisco Comensana in Miami Masters qualifying.

Walton has a clay-court title on the Challenger circuit to his credit and, based on the result when these two met a few weeks ago and their respective performances since, shapes as the clear option to back here.
