Hawkesbury hosts its headline meeting this Saturday, May 3rd.

Hawkesbury Gold Cup Day always attracts strong field and as a result, we’re set for a terrific betting program again in 2025, which I have scoured in search of my Hawkesbury best bets.

You can find ten Hawkesbury Cup Day tips below.

Race 1 - 11:20am

Midway BM72 Handicap (1500m)

Vintage Choice strikes a winnable race on Saturday.

The Lope De Vega gelding is yet to strike in three runs back from a break, but after finishing the runner up in each of his first two starts back, he was last seen finishing a credible fifth in the Provincial Championships Final.

This is a drop in class and a perfect target for him.

Race 2 - 11:55am

Highway Handicap (1500m)

The consistent Moscow Circus looks well placed in this week’s Highway Handicap.

Moscow Circus hasn’t missed placing in four runs back from a break, winning in maiden company at Eagle Farm two back before only just being denied in a fillies’ quality last time out.

She’s fit and primed to strike again.

Race 3 - 12:30pm

St Johns Park Bowling Club Clarendon Stakes (1400m)

Wentworth Falls is third-up and looks a winning chance in the Clarendon Stakes.

The Too Darn Hot colt raced greenly on debut at Warwick Farm last month and was well beaten, but he turned in an improved performance to finish only half a length behind the winner last time out.

Fitter third-up, we can have an each way play this week.

Race 4 - 1:05pm

Clarendon Tavern BM78 Handicap (1100m)

Spanish Fox resumes in a winnable race on Hawkesbury Gold Cup Day.

The Toronado gelding hasn’t been seen at the races since November, but he was nothing short of outstanding last time in, winning each of his five most recent starts.

He’s had the benefit of a couple of trials ahead of Saturday’s return, and he can pick up where he left off.

Race 5 - 1:40pm

Blakes Marin BM78 Handicap (1800m)

Jamberoo turned in a fine performance when resuming and looks a winning chance this week.

The Thunder Fire gelding turned in some fine efforts last time in, running a place in the Little Dance most notably, while he worked home well to finish second behind Poppin’ Champagne at Warwick Farm last month.

He’s a winner at this point of his preparation previously and the rise in trip looks suitable at this point of his preparation.

Race 6 - 2:15pm

Group 3 Hawkesbury Guineas (1400m)

He hasn’t shown his best this time in, but I am keen to see Gatsby’s out to 1400m for the first time in the Hawkesbury Guineas.

Gatsby’s turned in some excellent performances during his spring preparation, and while he’s yet to win a race this time in, there is no doubting his fitness this week.

With even luck in running and dropping in class from a strong edition of the Arrowfield Sprint, I think he’ll get his chance.

Race 7 - 2:50pm

Group 3 Hawkesbury Crown (1300m)

Belclare is second up and dropping in class into the Hawkesbury Crown field.

The Per Incanto mare didn’t quite measure up during a campaign in New Zealand over summer and autumn, but she returned to Australia with a fine performance to finish sixth in the All Aged Stakes at Randwick a fortnight ago.

She strips fitter and with luck from the wide draw, I think her class will take her a long way towards winning.

Race 8 - 3:25pm

Group 3 Hawkesbury Gold Cup (1600m)

The Hawkesbury Gold Cup looks a lovely feature race for Tavi Time.

Tavi Time has raced consistently through nineteen trips to the races so far and was excellent during his spring preparation, finding form around some quality gallopers and ending his year with victory in the Group 3 Summer Cup.

He couldn’t have done a lot more without winning in BM100 company at Randwick first-up a fortnight ago, and with natural improvement and getting out to a mile, he gets plenty of ticks this week.

Race 9 - 4:05pm

Listed Hawkesbury Gold Rush (1100m)

Coleman has been transferred to the care of Chris Waller and launches his new campaign in the Hawkesbury Gold Rush.

Coleman stamped himself as horse to follow during an excellent two-year-old campaign that was unlucky not to peak with victory in a Golden Slipper.

While he hasn’t won a race for more than a year now, he has continued to race well in strong company, and he’s had the benefit of a couple of trials since joining the master trainer’s team.

Race 10 - 4:45pm

The Lawn Shed BM88 Handicap (1400m)

Gallant Star is third-up and well placed to strike in the last at Hawkesbury on Saturday.

The talented gelding has been one of Australia’s best country-trained gallopers for a couple of years now, and after winning the Coonamble Country Championships Qualifier with complete ease first-up from a spell, he finished on the placegetters’ heels in the Final most recently.

This is a decent enough race, but third-up, I think this bloke is hard to beat.
