We’re back with the blackbook this week and it’s our biggest one yet!
I’ve found six horses that I’m keen to follow this Saturday and I’ll start with the sunshine state where it’s Doomben Cup Day.
Kicking off the card is a Benchmark 85 where Gumdrops resumes and she is sure to find this easier than what she’s previously contested.
Now under the care of Chris Waller, the Written Tycoon mare races well fresh and she’s not lacking in terms of class.
Winner of Listed Crockett Stakes just her third race start she returned in top order in her following preparation as she proved victorious in the Group 3 Typhoon Tracey Stakes at her second run back.
Luckless when resuming last campaign, she then pulled up with EIPH at her following outing.
She comes here off two pleasing trials and if she can find cover off the wide draw, I think she’ll be finishing off strongly.
Another from Doomben is Spacewalk, who will line up in the Listed Chief De Beers.
The Godolphin galloper comes off an eye-catching performance in the Takeover Target Stakes and looks nearing a win.
It was a terrific effort last time to finish as close as he did around Gosford after finding himself back at the tail.
He didn’t have the best of luck when resuming at Flemington, held up from 400m mark, he had to switch across heels and with 250m to go he charged home late into fourth.
With three starts across three states this campaign, he has finished off strongly on each occasion and I think he can return to the winner’s stall here under James McDonald.
Just the one from Randwick, they’ve copped a lot of rain so hopefully they can get through the card.
I’ve been watching Sun God closely since he arrived in Australia and he never looked comfortable around the tight Moonee Valley circuit as he made his first raceday appearance down under.
For that reason I wasn’t on him last time as he stepped out at Gosford and just as well, as it all went awry and I thought he did well to finish off as well as he did.
After getting a long way off them he got going approaching the 800m but was flushed very wide and was then bumped on the hindquarters and lost all momentum.
In just his first campaign here the former European galloper has shown enough to suggest he’s a very capable stayer.
The rise to 2400m suits and I think he’ll relish getting out onto the big Randwick track.
Terilee is one of three runners that I expect to be right in the thick of things on the Hillside this Saturday.
The Michael Kent trained filly has just had the two races starts and she was an impressive winner on debut over 1200m on the Caulfield Heath.
Settling behind the leader she travelled well and when brought into the clear at the top of the straight, she externed strongly to score by three lengths.
It was a completely different scenario last time as she settled in the second half of the field over the 1400m journey and never saw clear running at any stage in the straight.
She does have the wide draw to overcome but I think she’ll enjoy getting out onto this track and with even luck, she’ll be powering home late.
Logan Bates retains the mount and his claim sees her in beautifully with just 55kgs.
Accredited will make his first appearance in Victoria and the Joe Pride trained gelding certainly looks a horse on the rise.
Luckless when resuming last time, he then made it three straight wins and he did it impressively.
He failed to finish off in the Group 3 Southern Cross Stakes but was found to be lame and was subsequently spelled.
He returned with a very encouraging effort in the Takeover Target Stakes where he was beaten only half a length.
Held up approaching the home turn, just when he needed to be making his move, he took a while to get going again but finished off strongly late.
He strips fitter, is well suited with the rise to 1400m and gets Jamie Melham aboard.
In the lucky last, Oh Too Good will line up for the second time this preparation.
The daughter of All Too Hard hit the line strongly when resuming over 1200m at Caulfield and she’s sure to relish the rise in trip here.
From the wide gate she found herself a long way back but tracked into the race well and powered home down the outside into third.
A very honest mare, she’s yet to miss a top three spot in nine career starts and if she can settle in striking distance, I think she’ll prove hard to beat.
