Rinky Hijikata vs Daniel Evans
11.15pm
Back Hijikata to Cover the Games Handicap (-2.5) @ $1.83
Aussie Rinky Hijikata takes on British veteran Dan Evans in the first round of the Den Bosch Open.
Evans won their only previous clash in straight sets, at the 2024 Adelaide International.
World No.75 Hijikata lost in the first round of the French Open in a four-setter to Reilly Opelka, before making it to the semis of the Birmingham Challenger last week.
The 24-year-old enjoyed a strong grass season last year, beating Frances Tiafoe and Matteo Arnaldi to reach the Queen’s Club quarter-finals.
Ranked as high as 21st only two year ago, Evans is outside the top 200 and has not played a tour-level match since Dubai in February. He’s been plugging away on the Challenger circuit with little success and bowed out of French Open qualifying with a loss to world No.234 Clement Tabur.
Evans beat qualifying top seed Adam Walton to make the main draw here, but Hijikata should progress relatively comfortably at the 35-year-old’s expense here.
Adrian Mannarino vs Christopher O’Connell
6.00pm
Back Mannarino to Cover the Games Handicap (-1.5) @ $1.80
A top-20 player last year, world No.117 Adrian Mannarino has battled his way through qualifying to earn a first-round date with Australia’s Chris O’Connell at Den Bosch.
Mannarino took out their only clash to date at the 2022 Winston-Salem Open, a marathon featuring three tiebreaks.
World No.80 O’Connell is on a five-match losing streak, including a first-round French Open exit to Ugo Humbert and a defeat to Nicolas Moreno De Alboran at last week’s Birmingham Challenger.
Mannarino was bundled out at Roland Garros first up by Luca Van Assche. But he beat Yoshihito Nishioka and Nicolas Jarry to reach the quarters in Birmingham and got past Daniel Dutra da Silva and Alexander Blockx in qualifying here.
The 36-year-old Frenchman has made it to the last 16 at Wimbledon three times and has made five grass-court finals at ATP level for two titles. His recent momentum and O’Connell’s dip render Mannarino a solid option as a $1.65 favourite.
Ajla Tomljanovic vs Katie Boulter
10.15pm
Back Tomljanovic to Cover the Games Handicap (+3.5) @ $1.70
Australia’s Ajla Tomljanovic is aiming to maintain a recent form spike as she lines up against top-40 Brit Katie Boulter in the first round of the Queen’s Club Championships.
The head-to-head is one-all: Tomljanovic won on grass at the 2022 Nottingham Open, while Boulter prevailed at the United Cup in late-2023.
Tomljanovic reached the semis of the Morocco Open before thrashing compatriot Maya Joint in the first round of the French Open, where world No.4 Jasmine Paolini stopped her in the second round. She’s battled through a pair of three-set qualifiers against Harmony Tan and Zhang Shuai here.
The 32-year-old is a two-time Wimbledon quarter-finalist (2021-22) and reached the final of last year’s Birmingham Classic.
Boulter also has a strong grass-court CV, winning the past two Nottingham Opens. It’s been an injury-interrupted and underwhelming 2025 so far for the 28-year-old, but she won a Paris WTA 125k tournament before the French Open, where she lost to Madison Keys in the second round.
This shapes as a tight battle – and one where the wily Tomljanovic holds plenty of appeal as a $2.38 outsider.
Diana Shnaider vs Magdalena Frech
2.15am
Back Shnaider to Win 2-0 @ $1.85
World No.12 Diana Shnaider and 26th-ranked Magadlena Frech meet in a high-profile first-round clash at the Queen’s Club Championships.
Shnaider leads Frech 2-1 after three clashes in the past 10 months, winning at the Canadian Masters and Dubai Championships – the latter a 6-2 6-2 drubbing in February. Frech came from a set down to win at the China Open in October.
At the end of a decent clay swing, Shnaider was upset in the French Open’s second round by Dayana Yastremska.
It was this time last year that the tyro really started to make her mark on the WTA Tour, winning the 500-level Bad Homburg Open.
The 27-year-old Frech has been unable to back up her late-2024 breakout period, going 7-14 so far this season. She was eliminated by Marketa Vondrousova in a tough second-round draw at Roland Garros.
Shnaider’s proven grass-court form is more than reason enough to get behind her with confidence in this one.
