Philadelphia Phillies vs. New York Yankees
It’s not exactly a terrific pitching match up, but sometimes these are the kind of games that can hold real value. Vince Velasquez takes the mound for the Phillies, a 26-year old righty who owns an impressive .129 AVG against vs. the Yankees. New York, meanwhile, roll with Jonathan Loaisiga, the same Jonathan Loaisiga that allowed three earned runs against the Mariners last week. The Yankees will also enter this game minus star catcher Gary Sanchez, who is headed to the disabled list with a strained right groin. That’s a big blow to the Bronx Bombers’ offense, and one that could help the Phillies at home.
Washington Nationals vs. Tampa Bay Rays
This lefty vs. lefty pitching match up figures to be the game of the day. Blake Snell and Gio Gonzalez both hold an ERA under 3.00, but the Rays are fresh from a stunning extra-inning victory over the Yankees on Monday. Washington, meanwhile, well they have the unfortunate task of a short travel turnaround ahead of them. Flying from Philly to Tampa, the Nationals lineup will need to recover from a long rain delay game against the Phillies the day prior. It’s a tough ask for the Nats, and an even harder one against Snell, who has arguably been one of the Top 25 starting pitchers so far this season.
Jay Clarke vs. Ryan Harrison
It’s Brit vs. Yank tonight in the Nature Valley International. American Ryan Harrison comes in as the favourite against Jay Clarke, a young 19-year old who has burst onto the scene. Clarke was impressive in his qualifiers on Sunday, taking down Marek Jaloviec in two sets. Growing familiar with the Brits, Harrison lost to Kyle Edmund in the Round of 32 in the Queens’s Club Championships last week, but his recent losing form as of late makes him a surprising favourite. With big odds on offer for Clarke, this is a worthwhile stab for punters.
