Collingwood vs Essendon
The traditional Anzac Day clash between these sides is setting up as one of the best contests in this early part of the season. Collingwood are coming off one of their best performances in recent memory and that has earned them favouritism here but Essendon have a strong record as underdogs, winning six of their past 13. I’m backing an upset here, albeit a slight one as I think the Bombers will have just enough to get home.
Melbourne showed flashes of brilliance to beat Brisbane last weekend and playing at home on short rest cannot be understated. They have a good recent record against a Warriors side that knows how to play them tough, winning the last four encounters. Even with the Warriors strong start to the season, this is a game that will be one by the experienced heads and the Storm have plenty of those players on hand.
Bayern Munich vs Real Madrid
A matchup that would be worthy of a Champions League Final, we instead get to see these teams go at it over two legs rather than just a standalone. Bayern will want to set themselves up well before heading to the Bernabeu next weekend. That means they will need goals and plenty of them but with a strike force as lethal as theirs, I like their chances to spring a victory.
