Ladbrokes Tip: Don’t back a horse that ran worse than fourth in the lead-up to the Inglis Sires’
The ATC Inglis Sires’ Produce Stakes, referred to as simply the Inglis Sires’, is one of the four Group 1 highlights on the Doncaster Mile Day card at Royal Randwick Racecourse on the first Saturday in April.
The meeting makes up Day 1 of the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival’s coveted The Championships and the other top level races on the card are the Doncaster Mile, TJ Smith Stakes and Australian Derby.
Open to two-year-olds and run at set weights, the ATC Inglis Sires’ offers $1 million in total prize money including $600,000 to the winning juvenile. Colts and geldings carry 56.5kg and the fillies 54.5kg over the 1400m. No lead-up races offer an ATC Inglis’ Sires’ Produce Stakes ballot exemption so the form coming into the classic is varied but the Golden Slipper Stakes traditionally provides the winner.
The Golden Slipper Stakes is the first leg of the Sydney Two-Years-Old Triple Crown followed by the Inglis Sires’ and then the Champagne Stakes. Pierro (2012) was the last juvenile to complete the coveted autumn Triple Crown and joined just five other Australian turf champions in doing so.
The latest edition of the ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes took place on Saturday April 7, 2018 .

ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes Odds & Betting
ATC Inglis Sires’ Produce Stakes betting is led by two-year-olds that ran top four in their final lead-up run with only one winner since 1990 having run worse than fourth in their last Group lead-up. From 2006 – 2018 just three Inglis Sires’ favourites saluted for the punters when Camarilla (2007) and Sebring (2008) went back-to-back and Yankee Rose (2016) got the job done eight years later.
Longer priced hopes in the Inglis Sires’ Produce Stakes odds have a good record but until the huge 2018 upset by El Dorado Dreaming ($81) there was still only one double figure winner in that time when Yosei scored the upset at $17 in 2010.
Horses coming off a Golden Slipper Stakes lead-up dominate the markets and the feature juvenile’s race of the year has produced more ATC Inglis Sires’ Produce winners than any other event.

ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes Tips
The best ATC Inglis Sires’ Produce Stakes betting tip is to follow the form coming out of the Golden Slipper Stakes, which is the first of three Sydney Autumn 2YO Triple Crown races. Backing youngsters that ran top three last start and that are proven in Group 1 company are other good Inglis Sires’ tips.
With favourites having a poor record, laying the punters’ pick can also provide value in Inglis Sires’ Produce betting each autumn.
2018 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes Tips
Our insider Ladbrokes’ ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes 2018 betting tips will be provided below the week of the race with the two-year-olds to back and sack in the autumn feature.
- 1st: #4 SPIN ($17)
- 2nd: #13 OOHOOD ($3.60)
- 3rd: #7 TCHAIKOVSKY ($9)
Sniffing an upset and have SPIN ($17) as perhaps the best value winner on Day 1 of ‘The Championships’. Obviously hasn’t been up to Group 1 grade before, but his Group 3 placing (3rd) last weekend over this distance (1400m) when jockey Tim Clark dropped the whip was eye-catching. Fit, hasn’t finished out of the money since a fourth on debut and gets the chance to add to the outstanding record for the stable in this race at a blowout price from a good gate. OOHOOD ($3.60) is firming favourite and also a maiden. She’s won over $800,000 in prize money thanks to Blue Diamond third and the Slipper second. Same form Yankee Rose brought into this race two years ago to win and she has the same hoop (Zac Purton) riding. Tick. TCHAIKVOSKY ($9) looks an untapped improver for the Snowden stable.
ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes Form Guide
The ATC Inglis Sires’ Produce Stakes form guide shows the saddlecloth numbers, jockeys, trainers, barriers and lead-up runs of all the juveniles in the field.
Inglis Sires’ winners have jumped from a wide range of barriers over the past 30 plus years however inside alleys are the best guide with the most successful gates in that time being 1 with six winners, 5 with five winners and 4 with four winners.
Interestingly however Excites (12 in 2006), Guelph (13 in 2013) and El Dorado Dreaming (12 in 2018) scored from wide alleys in recent years. Gai Waterhouse is the most successful Inglis Sires’ Produce Stakes winning trainer preparing seven winners from 2000 including three on the trot from 2003-05.
Her latest winner was Sydney 2YO Triple Crown champion Pierro (2012), so watching for Waterhouse’s name on the Inglis Sires’ Produce form guide is often a good idea.
