The Breeders Classic field features a host of sprinter / miler mares each autumn, many kicking off their carnival campaigns in the race.
It is the first Group race for mares-only in the metropolitan Sydney race scene for the year and usually attracts a class line-up of female gallopers heading towards other features including the Coolmore Classic at Rosehill in March.
Breeders Classic nominations close on the Monday before the race with the final field and barriers out on the Wednesday, which is also when betting on the feature opens at bookmakers around the country.

A small but class line-up of nine mares make up the Breeders Classic 2018 final field this year including the Jason Coyle-trained stablemates Slightly Sweet and Memes. Breeders Classic Tips
Breeders Classic tips include looking for mares that come off a nice trial win ahead of a first-up run in the early Sydney Autumn showdown.
Mares with proven ability at Warwick Farm over the 1200m are also worth backing, as are the defending champions with both Steps In Time (2012-13) and Catkins (2014-15) going back-to-back in the race in recent years.
2018 Breeders Classic Betting Tips
Our insider Breeders Classic 2018 tips and betting preview on the early autumn Group 2 will be published below the week of the race.
- 1st: #2 EGYPTIAN SYMBOL ($3.50)
- 2nd: #6 MEMES ($8)
- 3rd: #8 TSWALU ($26)
EGYPTIAN SYMBOL ($3.50) is deserving favourite for local trainer Bjorn Baker and can improve on her second in the race last year when run at Randwick. First official start at the home Warwick Farm track, but she runs well fresh and has had the little break between this and the brave third in the Magic Millions Sprint at the Gold Coast behind the impressive Viddora. Good win firs-tup before that on a wet Rosehill track, at her pet distance here and the small field of mares puts in right in contention. MEMES ($8) had a saddle slip last Saturday when last (6th) in the Expressway Stakes and that’s a forgive / forget. She is better than that and will prove herself here on successive weekends. TSWALU ($26) is way overs. She is the roughest in this, but is a genuine 1200m mare (6:3-1-1), saluted at the track / distance on Australia Day with 4.5kg more on her back and can surprise.
Breeders Classic Form Guide
The Breeders Classic form guide details all the must know information for punters including saddlecloth numbers, jockeys, trainers and the barriers for all the mares in the field. Trainer Chris Waller has a strong record in the Breeders Classic in the past half-a-decade and any mares from his stable are often worth looking for on the form.
Looking back at mares that ran in Melbourne’s Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) at Flemington during the spring the season prior is also a good form line to follow in the Breeders Classic, the form of which recently held with the 2018 Breeders Classic winner Prompt Response who finished fourth in the previous spring’s Myer Classic.
