Coolmore Classic Odds & Betting

Coolmore Classic betting is usually led by fillies and mares coming off a top two finish in their most recent Group lead-up.

Peeping (2016) was at juicy Coolmore Classic odds for her Group 1 win

Peeping ($15 in 2016) scored an upset win in the Coolmore Classic as a four-year-old. Photo: Steve Hart.

Since 2008 just one Coolmore Classic winner has come off a worse-than-fourth lead-up when Heavens Above (2017) ran ninth in the Millie Fox Stakes before saluting at blowout Coolmore Classic odds of $26.

The following year Daysee Doom did the Millie Fox – Coolmore Classic double as a $21 roughie in betting on the Group 1.

Coolmore Classic odds favour fillies and mares with proven form up to a mile and Millie Fox Stakes is the most successful recent lead-up.

The race’s barrier draw doesn’t often impact too heavily on the Coolmore Classic odds with a wide spread of winners from across the gates.

2018 Coolmore Classic Odds

The Coolmore Classic 2018 betting odds on the Group 1 autumn feature for fillies and mares will be available below the week of the race so bookmark this page.

Coolmore Classic Field

Each autumn the Coolmore Classic field attracts Australia’s best female sprinter-milers and often attracts a near capacity field including in 2017 when Heavens Above faced 18 rivals in a bumper 19-starter Coolmore Classic field.

The female gallopers in the Coolmore Classic field come from a variety of different lead-up races including the Group 2 Millie Fox Stakes (1300m) at Rosehill and the Group 2 Surround Stakes (1400m) at Warwick Farm on Chipping Norton Stakes Day.

Many fillies and mares coming out of the Coolmore Classic field go on to take on the boys over 100m further in April’s lucrative Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) at Randwick Racecourse.

Coolmore Classic nominations close the Monday before the race followed by the release of the final field of acceptances on the Wednesday.

2018 Coolmore Classic Field

The official 2018 Coolmore Classic Final Field & Barrier Draw will be released below on Wednesday March 14, 2018 so bookmark this page!

The Coolmore Classic 2018 Field features a bumper line-up of 19 fillies and mares led by Ron Quinton’s Guy Walter Stakes winner Dixie Blossoms drawn ideally in barrier four with Corey Brown to ride. Her stablemate Dixie Blossoms was fourth in the race last year and comes off a Millie Fox Stakes win first-up, but has work to do from a wide gate 14 draw.

Update: The 2018 Coolmore Classic Field is down to 17 starters with the widely-drawn Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained filly Shumookh (18) scratched in favour of a run as the firming favourite against the colts & geldings in the Group 2 Phar Lap Stakes (1500m) earlier in the day. The widest-drawn runner Slightly Sweet (19) also came out of the line-up on race day.

2018 Coolmore Classic Nominations

The official Coolmore Classic 2018 Nominations close the Monday of race week and will be published in full below.

The 2018 Coolmore Classic Nominations attracted 23 hopefuls including last year’s winner Heavens Above looking to be the first ever back-to-back winner of the race. Runner-up in 2017, Silent Sedition is also back this year coming off a lead-up win in the Mannerism Stakes. Trainer Ron Quinton saddles-up his star stablemates Dixie Blossoms and Daysee Doom who also both come off first-up wins in the Guy Walter Stakes and Millie Fox Stakes respectively.

Coolmore Classic Tips

Coolmore Classic tips favour proven Group 3 performers in other fillies-and-mares feature races however the favourites have a poor recent record in the race.

From 2004 – 2018 only two favourites saluted for the punters with the latest to win being Aloha ($6 in 2011). Looking for fillies coming off a top two finish is a top Coolmore Classic tip and the only winners in the past 15 years to finish worse than fourth were Eskimo Queen in 2008 and Heavens Above in 2017.

Other Coolmore Classic tips are to look for graduates out of the Guy Walter Stakes and Millie Fox Stakes at double-figure odds and those drawn in barriers 7 – 9.

2018 Coolmore Classic Tips

Our Ladbrokes’ exclusive Coolmore Classic 2018 tips and exotic betting selections will be available here after the field and markets are out so stay tuned for the fillies and mares to get behind this autumn.

  • 1st:  #3  DAYSEE DOOM ($13)
  • 2nd: #2 SILENT SEDITION ($8)
  • 3rd: #14 FRANCALETTA ($12)

Tipping Ron Quinton to take out the Group 1 with last year’s fourth placegetter DAYSEE DOOM ($13) who is drawn wide again (14) but whose lead-up win in the Millie Fox Stakes first-up was eye-catching. Barrier 14 produced back-to-back winners in 2009-10, while the Millie Fox has produced two of the past three champions. She is fitter second-up, won the Golden Pendant second-up last spring and loves the Rosehill track (8:4-1-2). SILENT SEDITION ($8) comes off a successful Mannerism Stakes title defence, the same race she won when narrow second in last year’s Coolmore Classic. Up in weight from then but a Group 1 William Reid winner in the interim. Gun run from barrier 7 and Craig Williams rides. The New Zealander FRANCALETTA ($12) was far from disgraced first-up running third to Dixie Blossoms in the Guy Walter Stakes. Gets things her way from barrier two here and is in on a very favourable 52kg.
