Dane Ripper Stakes 2019

Saturday June 8, 2019

Ladbrokes Tip: The Dane Ripper Stakes is a key lead-up to the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara

The Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes is one of the major support acts on Stradbroke Handicap Day held on a Saturday in mid-June each year at Eagle Farm Racecourse at the end of the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival. The meeting is traditionally host to a triple shot of Group 1 racing action with the Stradbroke Handicap, Queensland Derby and JJ Atkins all highlights on the card.

The 2017 Dane Ripper Stakes ran Doomben over 1350m after Eagle Farm Racecourse was declared unfit for racing.

There are also a number of Group 2 features on the program including the Dane Ripper Stakes, formerly the Dane Ripper Quality, for fillies and mares. Run over 1400m at set weights plus penalties, the event was previous run under handicap conditions.

It offers a total of $200,000 in prize money and is a key lead-up into the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) held at the same track and distance a fortnight later during the broader Queensland Winter Racing Carnival. The last horse to complete the Dane Ripper Stakes – Tatterall’s Tiara double was then three-year-old Cosmic Endeavour (2014) repeating the feat achieved the previous year by Red Tracer (2013). Red Tracer also won the 2012 edition and was the first back-to-back Dane Ripper Stakes winner. Later the also Chris Waller-trained Invincibella (2018-19) would also win successive editions of the event.

This year the Dane Ripper Stakes ran on Saturday June 8, 2019 and saw Invincibella successfully defend her title.

2019 Dane Ripper Stakes Results

Dane Ripper Stakes Odds & Betting

Dane Ripper Stakes odds are led by in-form mares coming off good lead-up runs in similar class and company. The results of earlier races like the Glenlogan Park Stakes in Brisbane affect the Dane Ripper Stakes betting markets each winter, and combining those two female-only races is a popular betting double with the punters.

Sydney raiders have a top record in the Dane Ripper so the in-form interstate visitors from stables like that of Chris Waller who prepared dual winners Red Tracer (2012-13) and Invincibella (2018-19) often are high up the markets.

Dane Ripper Stakes betting opens after the final field of acceptances is released the Wednesday before the race takes place that Saturday.

Dane Ripper Stakes Field

The Dane Ripper Stakes field features a quality line-up of nice fillies and mares that are looking to back-up into the more lucrative Tattersall’s Tiara two weeks later back at Eagle Farm Racecourse. Runners come via a number of different lead-up races including Brisbane’s Group 3 Glenlogan Park Stakes (1350m) run a fortnight earlier at Doomben Racecourse. In 2014 Belle De Coeur ran second in the Glenlogan before a third to Cosmic Endeavour in the Group 2 Dane Ripper, while in 2016 Cradle Me also finished runner-up in the Glenlogan before her Dane Ripper Stakes success. The Glenlogan form was franked once more in 2018 when the runner-up Invincibella won the Group 2 at Doomben on a Heavy track.

Scone’s Group 3 Dark Jewel Classic (1400m) and Morphettville’s Group 3 Proud Miss Stakes (1200m) are other interstate races fillies and mares may contest on way to a Dane Ripper Stakes run. In 2015 Bound For Earth ran third in both the Dark Jewel Classic and Dane Ripper Stakes before a fourth in the Tattersall’s Tiara to Srikandi. That same year Hazard completed the Proud Miss Stakes – Dane Ripper double.

Dane Ripper Stakes nominations close the Monday before the race with the final field and barriers out on the Wednesday.

#6 CON TE PARTIRO – To Win

Tipping the second favourite #6 CON TE PARTIRO ($3.50) to make it back-to-back wins after the Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained import’s lead-up win in Scone’s Group 3 Dark Jewel Classic. That form has stacked up plenty over the years and think second-up she will be fit and ready to fire. Has winning form up to a mile and overcame a nasty barrier (13 of 13) last start. She rises a couple of kilos so needs to be improving, but this is an open race and she’s drawn midfield giving hoop Tim Clark plenty of options.

Dane Ripper Stakes Results

The Dane Ripper Stakes results have been dominated by in-form Sydney-trained mares in recent years with the last to salute at double-figures being Hurtle Myrtle ($10 in 2011). Notable Dane Ripper Stakes winners from the past decade include Cosmic Endeavour (2014), Red Tracer (2012-13) and Set For Fame (2010).
