Ladbrokes Tip: The Roses – Queensland Oaks is a popular winter betting double in Brisbane
The Roses, also known as The Doomben Roses, is a Group 2 race for three-year-old fillies run at Doomben Racecourse on a Saturday May during the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival. Offering $175,000 in total prize money, the set weights race is run over 2000m and is held on the same day as the carnival’s first elite level race – the Group 1 Doomben 10,000 (1200m).
The fillies lining-up in The Roses field are traditionally heading towards a run in the Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2400m) at Eagle Farm Racecourse a fortnight later and the last filly to complete the double was Scarlett Lady (2011).
Before her, subsequent Caulfield and Melbourne Cup winner Ethereal (2011) was the last Doomben Roses winner to win the Queensland Oaks. In 2014, The Roses winner Arabian Gold went on to run second to Tinto in the Queensland Oaks, Tinto having come off a second in The Roses. Both Gondokoro (2nd in 2013) and Quintessential (4th in 2012) also went on to win the the group 1 after a good lead-up run in the Doomben Roses.
The latest edition of the The Roses runs on Saturday May 11, 2019.

Doomben Roses Betting & Odds
The Roses betting markets are led by in-form fillies coming off good lead-up runs from the autumn – early winter season. The the fillies that finished in the money at the Gold Coast in the Bracelet, sometimes called simply The Bracelet and run at Doomben, usually head The Roses odds as do those dropping back in grade from a Group 1 Schweppes Oaks (2000m) run over the same distance in Adelaide a week before. The last Doomben Roses favourites to salute for the punters were Kenedna ($3 in 2017) who came off a second in the Schweppes Oaks and the Chris Waller-trained Youngstar ($4 in 2018).
The Roses betting markets are dominated by fillies proven over at least 1800m and The Bracelet graduates, and favourites have a fair recent record in the Group 2.
