Pago Pago Stakes Betting & Odds

Pago Pago Stakes odds favour two-year-olds with proven experience over the 1200m and those with winning Sydney lead-up form over the autumn. Upsets are more common in the Pago Pago Stakes than in the fillies’ equivalent run on the same day, the Magic Night Stakes, with the latest winner to salute at double figures being Tarquin ($12 in 2015). The 2018 Pago Pago Stakes betting favourite saluted for the punters however with Written By odds-on.

Pago Pago Stakes betting markets open on the Wednesday afternoon before the race following the release of the final field of acceptances and barriers.

Pago Pago Stakes Field

Many Pago Pago Stakes runners are also gearing up for autumn assignments over further distance including the Group 1 ATC Inglis’ Sires Produce Stakes (1400m) at Randwick during The Championships in April.

In 2015 Rageese ran second in both the Pago Pago Stakes and the Inglis Sires’ Produce when he tied for second in the latter with that year’s Pago Pago third placegetter Odyssey Moon.

Pago Pago Stakes nominations close the Monday before the race with the final field and barrier draw out on the Wednesday.

Pago Pago Stakes Tips

Pago Pago Stakes tips include looking for juveniles with good lead-up runs over similar distance races in Sydney and for those with previous black-type form on their record.

Laying the favourite is another solid Pago Pago Stakes betting tip to consider with plenty of upset results occurring in the race in recent history. Traditional lead-up races into the Pago Pago Stakes to consider when doing your tips include the Group 2 Todman Stakes (1200m) and Group 2 Skyline Stakes (1200m) both held in Sydney in the lead-up.

2018 Pago Pago Stakes Tips

Our Ladbrokes’ insider Pago Pago Stakes 2018 betting tips will be detailed below the week of the race with the two-year-olds to back and sack in the final Golden Slipper Stakes lead-up.

1st: #6 ZOUSAIN ($13)

2nd: #1 WRITTEN BY ($1.95)

3rd: #5 SPIN ($4.80)

Tipping an upset Pago Pago Stakes result with nice odds on offer for the progressive Chris Waller-trained ZOUSAIN ($13). Well-bred Zoustar colt won at Randwick on debut before the close fourth when only a quarter-length beaten in the Skyline Stakes on March 3. Looks to have upside, drawn wider in gate 10 but has room from the barrier and the step-up in distance should suit. Up to this grade. WRITTEN BY ($1.95) is odds-on and has the class, undefeated and last seen winning the Ladbrokes Blue Diamond. Think class alone will see him in the finish, but there are a few queries. Hasn’t raced since the Diamond, yet to go the Sydney way on race day and was originally only trialling in the lead-up to the Slipper before the set back due to the track. Still a danger. SPIN ($4.80) is from the star stable of Peter & Paul Snowden who know how to get the best out of a 2YO Slipper hope. Kerrin McEvoy rides from the gun barrier two draw and the money is coming for him to break his maiden status here after three good runs including the Skyline second, the form of which can back-up.
