- 1st: #9 SINGLE GAZE ($5.50)
- 2nd: #1 HARTNELL ($3.30)
- 3rd: #5 LORD FANDANGO ($16)
Small field but top race for the Australian Cup hopefuls and think it could finally be time for Nick Olive’s ultra-consistent mare SINGLE GAZE ($5.50) to finish on top. She was a Group 1 winner as a filly and finished second in last year’s Caulfield Cup. Hard luck story first-up when second again in the CF Orr Stakes (1400m) at this track a fortnight back. Should have won and gets the chance to do so second-up over the 1800m that will suit her even more. HARTNELL ($3.30) won the CF Orr Stakes and will jump favourite in this. He was impressive fresh and loves this track. Could take the power of beating again. LORD FANDANGO ($16) the definite value hope. Third in the TS Carlyon Cup first-up and faces the two that beat him home that day fitter. Is two-from-four second-up and won the Herbert Power last October before being beaten under two lengths for fourth in the Caulfield Cup.
