Queen Elizabeth Stakes 2018

Ladbrokes Tip: The George Ryder Stakes is a top lead-up into the Queen Elizabeth Stakes

The Queen Elizabeth Stakes is the richest race of the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival and offers $4 million in total prize money including a lucrative $2.4 million to the winner. Held on Day 2 of The Championships on the second Saturday of April each year at Royal Randwick, the weight-for-age Group 1 classic is run over 2000m and is held on the same day as the Sydney Cup, Australian Oaks and Queen Of The Turf Stakes.

The winners of the previous year’s Epsom Handicap and The Metropolitan as well as the current year’s Ranvet Stakes, The BMW, Doncaster Mile and ATC Derby are all exempt from Queen Elizabeth Stakes ballot.

The event attracts the season’s best weight-for-age gallopers and middle-distance hopefuls and one of the best Queen Elizabeth Stakes lead-up races is the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) held three weeks earlier at Rosehill Gardens on Golden Slipper Day, a double last completed by Chris Waller’s superstar mare Winx (2017) who returned and won her 25th straight victory in the 2018 Queen Elizabeth Stakes results to equal the winning streak of Black Caviar.

The latest edition of the Queen Elizabeth Stakes took place on Saturday April 14, 2018 .

Queen Elizabeth Stakes Tips

Looking for gallopers that finished in the money in lead-up Sydney Group 1 races like The BMW held a fortnight earlier over 500m further is a top Queen Elizabeth Stakes tip.

Favourites in the race only have a fair record so looking for value in the markets and laying the top fancy in betting can also prove lucrative, unless the Queen Elizabeth Stakes betting favourite is Winx!

Mares have a poor Queen Elizabeth Stakes record with only six female gallopers beating home the boys since 1983 meaning the stallions and geldings dominate tipping on the race. In recent years however the mares’ hoodoo in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes has lifted with victories by More Joyous (2012), Lucia Valentina (2016) and Winx (2017 & 2018).

2018 Queen Elizabeth Stakes Tips

Our insider Ladbrokes’ Queen Elizabeth Stakes 2018 betting tips will be detailed below the week of the race so stay tuned for who to back and sack in the Group 1 weight-for-age classic this autumn.

  • 1st: #9 WINX ($1.16)
  • 2nd: #7 COMIN’ THROUGH ($41)
  • 3rd: #2 GAILO CHOP ($15)

WINX ($1.16) is the Queen of the Turf and she makes it 18 Group 1 wins on Saturday. She is odds-on and firming to finish her autumn completing the same Group 1 treble as 2017 after winning the Chipping Norton – George Ryder double in the lead-up. Six-from-seven over this distance and everything says she wins. The Black Caviar winning streak of 25 straight calls, as does $18.88 million in prize money. Back don’t sack. COMIN’ THROUGH ($41) is the other Chris Waller-trained runner. Distance query for the in-form four-year-old, but his lead-ups suggest he’s going great and even at WFA presents as a place chance from the gun barrier (2) at his pet track. GAILO CHOP ($15) hasn’t gotten close to Saturday’s favourite when thrashed in the 2015 and 2017 Cox Plate, but this time in the Darren Weir-trained French expat won the Ranvet Stakes (2000m) before the Tancred Stakes (2400m) distance found him out. Better dropping back here.

The Queen Elizabeth Stakes form guide provides punters with all the must-know race facts and statistics including barrier positions and lead-up form. The most successful Queen Elizabeth Stakes barriers since 1983 are six (six winners), two (five winners) and four (five winners) so looking for horses drawn the inside alleys is a top form guide tip.

Queen Elizabeth Stakes Form Facts
