Sunline Stakes Odds

Sunline Stakes odds are usually dominated by the best performing mares coming out of Flemington’s Matron Stakes held a fortnight earlier over a mile with the Matron Stakes – Sunline Stakes double last completed by Spanish Reef (2018).

Good lead-up Melbourne form during the autumn is the key factor in the markets and the last Sunline Stakes winner to jump at double figures was Nakaaya ($10 in 2011). Sunline Stakes betting markets open on the Wednesday before the race after the final acceptances and barrier draw are out.

The Sunline Stakes field attracts a host of good fillies and mares with form over a mile or further, many coming out of the Group 3 Matron Stakes (1600m) over the same distance at Flemington.

The latest horses to complete the Matron Stakes – Sunline Stakes double are Noble Protector (2015) Spanish Reef (2018). In 2018 the Matron Stakes runner-up Samovare also finished second in the Sunline Stakes, repeating the quinella.

Earlier in 2014 Text’n Hurley ran second in the Schweppervescence Trophy (Matron Stakes) before her Sunline Stakes win, while Bippo No Bungus crossed third and second in the same two races respectively.

More recently, in 2017 I’m A Star won the Sunline Stakes on the back of a lead-up win in the Group 2 Kewney Stakes (1400m) at Flemington.

Sunline Stakes nominations close on the Monday before the race with the final field and barrier draw released on the Wednesday.

2018 Sunline Stakes Tips

Our Ladbrokes’ exclusive Sunline Stakes 2018 betting tips will be detailed right here a day or so out from the event so stay tuned for the Sunline Stakes best bets.

  • 1st: #4 SPANISH REEF ($2.80)
  • 2nd: #3 SAMOVARE ($2.80)
  • 3rd: #8 ROYAL APPLAUSE ($20)

Tipping the first two as predicted by the bookies with the flying SPANISH REEF ($2.80) on top posting a third win on the trot. The Ken Keys-trained Lope De Vega four-year-old won the Group 3 Matron Stakes (1600m) at Flemington last start defeating Friday night’s co-favourite SAMOVARE by three-quarters of a length. Think it will be more of the same as she looks to add to her outstanding mile form (4:3-1-0). In third for value in the Sunline Stakes trifecta the $20 for ROYAL APPLAUSE is very attractive, Ben Melham riding the genuine Moonee Valley specialist (7:2-3-0) whose lead-up fourth in the Matron Stakes was good enough to suggest at The Valley she can run top three.

Sunline Stakes Form Guide

The Sunline Stakes form guide provides punters with all of the must know race information including the trainers, jockeys, barriers and lead-up runs of the female gallopers in the field.

The Sunline Stakes form has stacked up in better autumn races in recent years including the Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m) in Sydney during ‘The Championships’ that the 2015 Sunline Stakes winner Noble Protector ran third to Amanpour in. The 2017 Sunline Stakes winner I Am A Star went on to place third in Adelaide’s Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) that winter.
