Ladbrokes Tip: The Tristarc Stakes is a traditional Empire Rose Stakes lead-up in the spring

The Tristarc Stakes is a Group 2 support race on the Caulfield Cup Day card at Caulfield Racecourse in mid-late October each Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival.

The meeting is headlined by the Group 1 $5 million Caulfield Cup (2400m) and along with the Tristarc Stakes the other Group 2 feature on the program is the Caulfield Sprint (1000m). Run over 1400m under set weights plus penalties, the Tristarc Stakes is open only to mares aged four-years-old and above and offers $300,000 in total prize money.

The Tristarc Stakes makes a nice lead-up into the Group 1 Empire Rose Stakes (1600m) at Flemington on Victoria Derby Day during the Melbourne Cup Carnival. The last mare to complete the Tristarc Stakes – Myer Classic double was Red Tracer (2013).

The latest edition of the Tristarc Stakes runs on Saturday October 19, 2019.

Tristarc Stakes Field

The Tristarc Stakes field attracts a collection of the season’s top middle-distance mares many eyeing a Group 1 Myer Classic run over the mile on Derby Day a fortnight later.

The traditional lead-up into the Tristarc Stakes field is Flemington’s Group 2 Blazer Stakes (1400m) run over the same distance two weeks earlier. La Passe (2015) was the last mare to complete the Blazer Stakes – Tristarc Stakes double. That same year Jessy Belle ran third in both races.
