Randwick Race 7 (1200m) - Sat 13th Oct 2018

Randwick - NSW:

Showery
Track: Heavy (9)
Randwick Race 7
THE EVEREST
Distance: 1200m
Race Time: 4:15 PM
Race Status: (Final) Closed
Race Comments:
REDZEL Won this race last year on the back of four straight wins and whether he is going quite as well this year is a genuine query after his defeat in the Premiere Stakes last start, however finds the front comfortably from the inside gate and can bounce back. VEGA MAGIC Chased home Redzel in the inaugural Everest on an identical preparation having a six-week break after the Memsie Stakes which he won last year and finished a close fourth this year. Should settle in the first three in running and is right in the mix. SHOALS Has only missed a place once in her 12-starts and seven times a winner. Has been placed both runs this time in including a closing third in the Premiere Stakes last start. She should be right at her peak third-up and gets a soft run from the inside gate. A winning chance for sure. BRAVE SMASH Was beaten a length when third in this race last year and has been placed in each of his three runs this preparation including a runner-up finish in the Moir Stakes at Moonee Valley last start. Connections have plotted a different path this year with his lead-up races over 1000m and 1100m compared to 1200m races last year. May well be a touch fresh this year and can blouse these late.

The Golden Rose, T.J. Smith and All Aged Stakes winner as a three-year-old and his first-up run in the Theo Marks two runs back was promising. Was somewhat disappointing in the Premiere Stakes last time out however it is worth noting his second-up record reads no wins and no placings from four starts. Expecting him to bounce back.

The unknown quantity in the race being the only overseas representative. Races in the Coolmore colours and is a last start Group I winner of the July Cup at Newmarket. Whilst he has just the one win from his last six starts he has been tested over longer journeys in recent starts and worth noting  he has won his last three Group I's over sprint journeys. He shouldn't be under-estimated.

Bloused the Moir Stakes field late resuming at Moonee Valley. Whether she can be as dominant over 1200m is a query at this level but did win the Magic Millions Sprint at the Gold Coast over the trip earlier in the year. Rates a place chance and is worth including in the wider exotics.
