2021 NBL Round 21 Preview

Illawarra Hawks vs Perth WildcatsTuesday, June 1, 7:30pm, WIN Entertainment Centre

We’ve got even money on offer tonight between second and third on the ladder.

These two sides are both well on their way to playing finals, but this game does shape as an important one as far as playoff momentum is concerned.

The Hawks have won four straight coming in, while the Wildcats are also scorching hot with five wins from their past six games.

Perhaps the one factor that separates these two sides is Perth’s dominant run over Illawarra dating back to 2019.

The Wildcats have won seven straight over the Hawks and have also played to a handy 12-5 record as the away favourite against Illawarra.

There really isn’t much separating these two sides, but Perth winning in a low-scoring game seems the likely outcome.

New Zealand Breakers vs Cairns TaipansWednesday, June 2, 5:30pm, Energy Events Centre
South East Melbourne Phoenix vs Brisbane BulletsWednesday, June 2, 7:30pm, Cairns Pop Up Arena
Illawarra Hawks vs Sydney KingsThursday, June 3, 7:30pm, WIN Entertainment Centre

Perth Wildcats vs Melbourne UnitedFriday, June 4, 9:30pm, RAC Arena

There’s no two ways about it, this is a massive top of the table clash.

A win for the Wildcats would see them leapfrog United for the top spot on the ladder, while a Melbourne win would see them clinch the title.

To make things even trickier, we’re faced with almost even money in the market and a very narrow line.

As far as the winner goes though, I like Perth to get the job done.

The Wildcats lost to United on home-court just under a month ago, but they did win back-to-back fixtures against Melbourne on the road earlier in the year.

The Wildcats have also been outstanding in their last three games winning by big margins against the Taipans, 36ers and Kings, while United lost in OT to the Kings last week.

This should be close, but the value on Perth is tough to ignore.

New Zealand Breakers vs South East Melbourne PhoenixSaturday, June 5, 5:30pm, The Trusts Arena

The Phoenix are shooting for a clean sweep over the Breakers on Saturday as they simultaneously look to secure their spot in the top four.

South East Melbourne has finished the season strongly with four wins from its last five games, while they’ll also be eager to pull last week’s loss to the Taipans behind them.

The Phoenix have played to a 10-5 record on the back of a loss this year and they have also been a fairly consistent team on the road.

A trip to Auckland is never easy, but it’s hard to ignore the value here.

Tip: Back the Phoenix to Win @ $1.85
