Royal Randwick will play host to a mammoth 11 race card this Saturday, headlined by the running of the Listed Bob Charley AO Stakes.
With the remainder of Rosehill washed out last weekend, the Listed Lord Mayors Cup has been added the program, providing us with back to back black type features.
The rail will be in the true position and track is currently rated a soft 7.
We’ve had a close look at all eleven events on the program and our thoughts can be found below.
Stardeel makes his raceday debut.
The Dundeel colt has been given two public trials and there’s a lot to like about what he’s shown.
Sent forward in his first Rosehill outing, he produced a good kick over the final part to win the heat comfortably and in his second trial appearance he was restrained to settle in behind them and picked up well over the final part, without being pressured.
He looks very professional and is set to receive every chance from the low draw under Rachel King.
1 unit – STARDEEL
Decadent Tale hasn’t been far away in recent runs and should find this easier than what she’s been contesting.
Sent for a short freshen up after stepping out in the Group 3 Neville Sellwood, she returned with an encouraging run over 1700m at Scone.
After settling back in the field, she charged home down the outside to finish just over a length off the very promising Unusual Legacy.
Fitter for that run, she looks ideally placed here at the mile and has drawn to get every chance under Jason Collett.
1 unit – DECADENT TALE
Ramones has been racing well and was only run down in the final stages last start over 1200m here.
After working hard in the early part to cross, he showed a strong a strong kick in the straight and looked the winner 200m out but just felt the pinch late, which he was entitled to do.
The slight drop back in trip will suit and from the inside draw he’s set to receive a cosy run.
The blinkers go on for the first time, replacing the winkers and Bailey Wheeler will take 2kgs off with his claim.
1 unit – RAMONES
Invincible Spy has won four of his six starts and looks ideally placed to add to that tally.
The son of I Am Invincible proved too strong second up when leading from start to finish over the mile in the Wagga Guineas and was again too strong again last start when stepping up to 1800m here.
The way he worked through the line suggests the rise to 2000m will suit and Amy McLucas will do the steering for the Waterhouse / Bott team and take 2kgs off.
1 unit – INVINCIBLE SPY
Nana’s Wish has been racing well and the form around her is solid.
She took a while to warm up over the 1500m two starts back but hit the line strongly over the final 100m.
Last start in the heavy conditions at Newcastle she was again strong late but just found one better on the day, in subsequent Group 2 winner Scarlett Oak.
This looks an ideal assignment for the New Zealand bred mare and she gets in nicely with the 2kg claim for Bailey Wheeler.
1 unit – NANA’S WISH
Passeggiata has been the runner up in two runs back from a break and the speedy mare looks well placed here to go one better.
Only lightly raced, the daughter of Winning Rupert has shown plenty of natural talent and she presents here on peak order.
She was well supported when resuming over 900m at Newcastle but after an awkward getaway just had the task ahead and last start, she was only just collared late after taking up the lead.
Barrier two should see her afforded all the favours under Rachel King.
1 unit – PASSEGGIATA
Estadio Mestalla resumed with an eye catching run in the Listed Takeover Target Stakes last month.
After settling towards the rear of the field, the former UK import let down strongly down when brought to the outside to finish just on the heels of the placegetters.
With a month since that run, he’s been given a 1050m trial and the slight rise to 1300m looks ideal.
The five year old continues to improve and with an impressive record here at Randwick, he looks a top chance under Tyler Schiller.
1 unit – ESTADIO MESTALLA
Sibaaq hasn’t been far away in two runs back from a break and there’s a lot to like about him here.
When resuming in the Listed Golden Mile at Bendigo he hit the front 100m from home but was only just collared in the final stages.
Given a five week freshen up he then stepped out in the Listed Scone Cup, where he looked to have the race in his keeping at the 200m mark but was again just collared late.
Fitter for the two runs back, he looks well placed here up to 2000m and the blinkers come off, which should see relax throughout the run.
He will need luck from the wide gate but gets the in-form Kerrin McEvoy onboard.
1 unit – SIBAAQ
Iowna Merc kicked off his campaign with a solid performance in the Listed Ortensia Stakes, charging home from the back to claim third and record his first black type placing.
A son of Winning Rupert, he’s performed consistently throughout his twelve start career and looks to have returned in top order.
Boasting an excellent second up record, he has also performed very well over this track and distance.
He gets in here nicely with just 53kgs and Rachel King will again do the steering for Bjorn Baker.
1 unit – IOWNA MERC
Waterford comes off a narrow defeat in the Listed Scone Cup.
The Chris Waller trained gelding proved too good when resuming over 1500m at Rosehill in late April and was unlucky not have saluted in the feature event last start.
Held up for clear running in the early part of the straight, he charged late once clear, only to be denied right on the line.
With the two runs under his belt he presents here in peak order and will appreciate the slight drop back in grade.
Josh Parr takes the mount and with any luck in running, he should prove hard to beat.
1 unit – WATERFORD
Hollywood Hero is racing well and drops back in grade.
The ultra consistent son of Sacred Falls scored a well deserved win two starts back, sweeping home from the tail to salute over 1550m at Canterbury.
Last start he contested the $500k The Coast feature at Newcastle and was doing his best work late in the heavy conditions.
With the rise in the weights, Bjorn Baker has elected to claim, securing Bailey Wheeler to do the steering and take 2kgs off.
