The ATC Carbine Club Stakes is a Group 3 mile race for three-year-olds held at Randwick Racecourse in early April on Day 1 of ‘The Championships’.
Not be confused with the VRC Carbine Club Stakes held in the spring, the event runs alongside a bumper autumn racing line-up in Sydney including the Doncaster Mile and TJ Smith Stakes.
Run at set weights plus penalties, it offers $250,000 in prize money and was first conducted in 1981 but did not gain Group 3 status until 2011.
The race is named in honour of former champion thoroughbred from the 19th century Carbine whose victories included the 1890 Melbourne Cup and back-to-back wins in the Sydney Cup (1889-1890).
The latest edition of the Carbine Club Stakes (ATC) ran on Saturday April 6, 2024 on Day 1 of ‘The Championships’ at Randwick and was won by the Michael Freedman-trained Trapeze Artist colt Ducasse ($6).

Our Ladbrokes’ exclusive ATC Carbine Club Stakes 2024 best bets will be detailed below before the race takes place on the first Saturday of April so bookmark this page for the three-year-olds to back and sack this autumn.
- To Win: #15 Pasima ($21 at time of publish) – BET NOW
Open race and think there’s plenty of value to be had in Pasima in top form and at 20/1 at time of publish. Ciaron Maher-trained and well-bred being a progressive son of Pierro. This colt is full of confidence now having broken his maiden status at start number six last time out. Won over the mile at Warwick Farm narrowly on March 6 with 60.5kg. Has had a month between runs so still fresh and is right back in weight to 56kg. Jason Collett retains the ride. This is a tougher grade but think he’s up to it and can surprise a few.
ATC Carbine Club Stakes Results
Proven Sydney-trained three-year-olds coming off a run in similar grade races and those just under double-figures in betting have dominated the recent ATC Carbine Club Stakes race results.
