Bondi Stakes 2019

Saturday October 26, 2019

The Bondi Stakes is one of the new Sydney Spring Racing Carnival feature races as Racing NSW and the Australian Turf Club (ATC) continue to try and rival Melbourne for the punters’ attention during the late September – November period.

Offering $1 million in prize money, the Bondi Stakes is a mile event run over 1600m under set weights conditions and is open to three-year-old horses. It is now one of Sydney’s 11 seven-figure spring races. Many of these, including the range of Special Conditions races like The Everest and The Golden Eagle, all form part of the colossal The Everest Carnival giving away over $45 million in prize money.

The Bondi Stakes is the major event on a Saturday meeting in late October at Royal Randwick Racecourse and holds the same date as Melbourne’s iconic Cox Plate at Moonee Valley dominated in recent years by historic three-time champion Winx.

Three-year-olds out of the previous month’s Golden Rose Stakes and any fillies that contested the Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m) over the same track  and distance as the Bondi Stakes make-up the bulk of the field for the million dollar showdown.

Racing NSW have altered the three-years-old race program over the spring to work around the Bondi Stakes. One of crucial changes is the Group 2 Stan Fox Stakes (1500m) running a month later in mid-October, a fortnight before the Bondi Stakes, now serving as a nice stepping-stone to the new mile event.

The 2019 edition of the Bondi Stakes took place at Randwick on Saturday October 26, 2019 and saw the Chris Waller-trained Kubrick win the inaugural race.

Bondi Stakes Betting

The Bondi Stakes betting markets are led in the spring by quality three-year-old horses coming off a good lead-up campaign in other high class events.

A key lead-up race that impacts the Bondi Stakes odds is the Group 1 $1 million Golden Rose (1400m) at Rosehill in September. The Golden Rose – Bondi Stakes betting double is set to become a popular punt in the spring.

The first favourite in Bondi Stakes betting was Kubrick ($3.70 in 2019) who won for the punters improving on a 14th place in the Group 1 Ladbrokes Caulfield Guineas (1600m) in Melbourne the start before.

2019 Bondi Stakes Odds

The season’s top Bondi Stakes 2019 odds complete with betting market links will be provided below once markets on the new three-years-old showdown are open.

Bondi Stakes Field

The Bondi Stakes field attracts the season’s top three-year-old middle-distance runners out of lead-up races including the Golden Rose Stakes and the Stan Fox Stakes.

Three-year-old horses targeting a run in the Bondi Stakes field are likely to run in the Group 1 Golden Rose over 1400m a month before and or the Stan Fox, a 1500m event that now takes place a fortnight ahead of Bondi Stakes Day. Fillies also get a chance at a Group 1 double with the Golden Rose – Flight Stakes before a possible run in the $1 million Bondi Stakes field.

Sydney’s Bondi Stakes field attracts a similar line-up to Melbourne’s $2 million Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) held over the same distance at Caulfield Racecourse two weeks prior.

The first Bondi Stakes field ran with nine hopefuls and saw Caulfield Guineas graduate Kubrick (14th) win as the $3.70 equal favourite.

2019 Bondi Stakes Field

The official Bondi Stakes 2019 final field and barriers will be provided below the week of the race once released by Racing NSW.

The 2019 Bondi Stakes Field has attracted a star line-up of 10 young hopefuls with the wide-open market led by the Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained Just Thinkin’ in barrier two. He comes off a fourth when narrowly beaten in the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes, the form of which is tipped to stack up in both Sydney and Melbourne this weekend.

Bondi Stakes Tips

Good Bondi Stakes betting tips include looking for the proven Group 1 three-year-olds in the race out of spring lead-ups including the Golden Rose Stakes and the Flight Stakes. Caulfield Guineas graduates over the same distance in Melbourne a fortnight earlier also make a good Bondi Stakes betting tip after the success of Kubrick in 2019 who improved on a luckless 14th in the Caulfield Guineas.

Taking a horse to complete the Golden Rose – Bondi Stakes spring double is another top tip for the season.

Our Ladbrokes’ insider Bondi Stakes 2019 tips and Randwick racing selections will be detailed below closer to race day.

Bondi Stakes Results

The official Bondi Stakes results list the full finishing order of all the gallopers in the field, the winning margin / time, the Trifecta and First Four results plus the starting prices of the runners.

Using the Bondi Stakes results to guide betting on other upcoming spring features for three-year-olds is a good tip with the form expected to stack-up in later events.
