Ladbrokes Tip: The Caloundra Cup makes a nice final lead-up into the Grafton Cup.
It is not to be confused with the Listed Sunshine Coast Cup (1400m) run by the Sunshine Coast Turf Club in summer.

A quality handicap race contested over 2400m, the race has been run and won since 1985 and won by a number of nice stayers over the years including Henderson Bay (2001), dual champion Empyreal (2005, 2006) and Index Linked (2015).
The Caloundra Cup currently offers a total of $300,000 in prize money as of 2022 and attracts a strong line-up of winter stayers each year. It takes place on the same day as the Group 3 Winx Guineas (1600m) for three-year-olds.
A good lead-up race is the Listed Ipswich Cup run the week prior or Brisbane’s Group 3 Tattersall’s Cup contested on Tiara Day.
The Caloundra Cup winner is also exempt from ballot for the following Thursday’s Listed Grafton Cup (2350m) and Supply And Demand (2017) followed by Zoumon (2023) are the latest horses to do the Caloundra Cup – Grafton Cup winter double.
The rescheduled edition of the 2024 Caloundra Cup ran on Sunday, July 14, 2024 at the Sunshine Coast and was won in a narrow upset by The Mission mare Mission Of Love ($12) who was given a peach of a ride by Ms. Angela Jones.

- To Win: #2 Hezashocka ($3.70 at time of publish) – BET NOW
Think it will be a good day for the favourites and happy to stick with proven wet tracker Hezashocka in the rescheduled Caloundra Cup. The Shocking six-year-old has previous winning form over the 2400m and is down notably in grade here after a decent run in the Group 2 The Q22 against a talented field in Brisbane. He does need to lump the 60kg equal top-weight, no easy task on a likely bottomless track, but his form all campaign suggest he has the class to do so. He handled a Heavy (9) to win the Gosford Cup earlier this prep, was under three lengths beaten in the Group 1 Doomben Cup and beat Alegron home in the Group 3 Premier’s Cup over this distance at Eagle Farm. Good form and right race to win again.
