Ladbrokes Tip: The Concorde Stakes is a good early lead-up into the $15 million The Everest.
The Concorde Stakes is a popular Group 3 short-distance sprint contested at Royal Randwick on Chelmsford Stakes Day in early September each Sydney Spring Racing Carnival.
The set weights plus penalties showdown offers $160,000 in prize money and has been run and won since 1990.
The Concorde Stakes now serves as a potential lead-up into the world’s richest turf race, the $15 million The Everest (1200m) taking place at the same track in October.
In 2017 and 2018 the champion Redzel completed the Concorde Stakes – The Everest double twice on the trot and returned in 2019 to become a three-time Concorde Stakes hero.
In 2020 the Concorde Stakes winner Gytrash ran a next-up third in that year’s The Everest results before taking out Rosehill’s $1 million Winners Stakes.
The 2021 Concorde Stakes winner Nature Strip finally saluted as the odds-on favourite in the event at his third attempt.
The latest edition of the Concorde Stakes took place on Saturday September 4th, 2021 and was won by Chris Waller’s $8 million earner Nature Strip.

- To Win: #3 Wild Ruler ($5 at time of publish)
Yes, Nature Strip is in the race, yes we’re betting against the odds-on $8 million earner. Wild Ruler is four-from-four at Randwick and better weighted for this. Nature Strip has a habit of being beaten odds-on and better price offered on Team Snowden’s first-up specialist. Form around Eduardo from the winter and can run a good race fresh.
