Eurythmic Stakes 2023

Ladbrokes Tip: The Eurythmic Stakes was previously known as the Northerly Stakes.

The Eurythmic Stakes is a Group 3 race run and won at Perth’s Ascot Racecourse in Western Australia over the spring racing season.

The event was formerly known as the Northerly Stakes before being renamed ahead of the 2022 edition so as not to clash with the now Group 1 Northerly Stakes (1800m) race – previously the Kingston Town Classic – which is held later during the popular Perth Summer Racing Carnival.

The race was inaugurated in 1978 as the Anniversary Cup and currently offers $200,000 in prize money.

The Eurhythmic Stakes takes place over 1400m and is a set weights plus penalties showdown.

It is now named in honour of former champion racehorse and Australian Hall of Fame inductee Eurhythmic who won a host of important races including the Caulfield Cup (1920) and Sydney Cup (1921).

The event currently takes place on the same date as Melbourne’s Caulfield Cup race in late October and gained its current Group 3 status in 2013 the year top Perth galloper Playing God won.

It was originally a staying race held over 2200m, but the distance has gradually been reduced over the years to the current 1400m so the race can serve as a lead-up to the Group 1 Perth races over the following weeks including the Group 1 Railway Stakes (1600m) held at the end of November.

The Listed Crawford Stakes (1000m) for the sprinters is the other Black-Type event on Eurythmic Stakes Day.

The latest edition of the Eurythmic Stakes ran on Saturday October 21st, 2023 on the same day as the Caulfield Cup in Melbourne and was won by the fast-finishing Karli’s Karma ($8) for trainer Summer Dickson.

Eurhythmic Stakes Field

The Eurhythmic Stakes race field attracts a quality line-up of mainly WA-trained gallopers eyeing bigger targets over the coming months in Perth over the summer.

A good next-up option for horses out of the Eurhythmic Stakes field is the Group 2 Lee Steere Stakes (1400m) run in early to mid-November.

Massimo (2nd in 2021 and 3rd in 2022) was the last Eurhythmic Stakes graduate to back-up and win the Lee Steere Stakes on back-to-back years.

Eurhythmic Stakes Tips

Good Eurhythmic Stakes betting tips include backing Perth-trained horses with previous winning form and those at single-figures in the markets as the favourites have a strong recent record in the event.

Six-year-olds have a dominant recent record in the event with five of the seven winners from 2017-23 being six-years-old, so backing this age group in your Eurhythmic Stakes bets is a good tip.

Another key Eurhythmic Stakes tip is to back horses drawn in barriers 1-9 with the only to salute from a double-digit barrier since 2007 being King Saul (barrier 13 in 2012) and Karli’s Karma (barrier 11 in 2023).

2023 Eurhythmic Stakes Tips

Our Ladbrokes’ exclusive Eurhythmic Stakes 2023 betting tips and exotic Perth racing selections on the event will be detailed below the week of the race.

  • To Win: #6 Bustler ($6.50 at time of publish) – BET NOW

Great edition of the Eurythmic in Perth, but have landed on the returning Bustler who doesn’t know how to run a bad race. The four-year-old son of Playing God boasts a 50% winning strike-rate at the Ascot track (8:4-1-0), is two-from-three fresh, and has a flawless three-from-three record at the distance. Winner of the Group 3 Belmont Sprint in the winter, he was last seen finishing under a length back third to Startrade in the Group 3 Hyperion over the mile in late May. Had a nice break and presents now as a furnished four-year-old with every chance to kick off his latest prep in style so long as he gets into the right spot from the wide alley.

Eurhythmic Stakes Form Guide

More recently the Eurhythmic Stakes form was franked with the 2022 winner Resortman running third in the Lee Steere next start before a fourth in that year’s Railway Stakes results.
