To Win: No. 5 Whisky On The Hill
WHISKY ON THE HILL (2) gets the perfect opportunity to go back-to-back and potentially book his ticket towards a Melbourne Cup berth on November 4, stepping out from a great draw over his preferred trip in the Herbert Power Stakes. The Ribchester gelding boasts an outstanding record at the 2400m (4:3-0-0) and looks right at home over the mile and a half. His latest run saw him return to form in style with a determined victory in a Black-Type race at Mornington, ending a long winning drought and reminding punters of his genuine staying credentials. Carrying 54kg (a half a kilo over allocation) and partnering with in-form jockey Damian Lane, he gets all the right conditions to perform again. He also owns a previous win at Caulfield over this very track and trip, taking out a BM84 here last October with more weight on his back. While this represents a rise in class, Whisky On The Hill’s staying strength and affinity for the distance make him a live chance once more. Expect him to settle off the speed and hit the line powerfully late. Proven 2400m specialist perfectly placed under the conditions – strong winning chance for mine.
