The Lord Reims Stakes is a Group 3 distance race run and won over a testing 2600m at Morphettville Racecourse in late February as a lead-up into the Adelaide Autumn Racing Carnival.

A time-honoured feature at Morphettville, the Lord Reims Stakes was first held back in 1889 as the West End Draught Stakes.

It was renamed the Lord Reims Stakes in 2010 in honour of triple Adelaide Cup champion, the Kiwi-bred Lord Reims (1987–1989) who also won this event twice in 1988 and 1989. Lord Reims is also famous for winning the 1987 Caulfield Cup.

The better stayers in the Lord Reims Stakes traditionally target a run over the two-miles in the Group 2 Adelaide Cup (3200m) held in mid-March.

The Lord Reims Stakes / Adelaide Cup double has been completed 18 times, most recently by Apache King in 2001.

The Lord Reims Stakes runs in Adelaide on the same day Melbourne hosts the Blue Diamond Stakes.

The latest edition of the Lord Reims Stakes ran on Saturday February 24, 2024 at Morphettville in South Australia and was won by Patrick Kearney’s $8000 bargain buy Yellowbrick Road ($8).

Notable Lord Reims Stakes winners include Vakeel (1893), Port Admiral (1894), Warpaint (1896), Stralia (1925), Altimeter (1928), Parallana (1929), Far Away Places (1961), Fulmen (1967), Phar Ace (1974), Yashmak (1980), Moss Kingdom (1984), the race’s now namesake Lord Reims (1988 & 1989), Water Boatman (1990), Ideal Centreman (1991), French Resort (1996), Cronus (1997), and Apache King (2001) who all completed the Lord Reims / Adelaide Cup double. 

Etah James (2018) is another of the more famous recent Lord Reims Stakes winners, the mare going on to win the 2020 edition of the Group 1 Sydney Cup (3200m).
