The latest edition of the Ladbrokes Pakenham Cup took place on Saturday December 13, 2025 as part of Victoria’s summer racing schedule and was won in runaway fashion by Phillip Stokes’ veteran nine-year-old Taramansour ($26).
2025 Ladbrokes Pakenham Cup Results
The full Ladbrokes Pakenham Cup 2025 Results & Finishing Order will be provided below once the race is run and won on Saturday December 13, 2025.

- 1st: No. 13 Taramansour
- 2nd: No. 10 Star Vega
- 3rd: No. 3 Etna Rosso
Taramansour ($26) produced one of the feel-good stories of the season with his upset victory in the 2025 Ladbrokes Pakenham Cup results on Saturday, storming home to claim the Listed 2500m feature in dominant fashion. Sent out at big odds, the nine-year-old veteran from the Phillip Stokes yard defied both age and recent form to put a space on his rivals, surging clear to score by more than three lengths over Star Vega, with Etna Rosso grabbing third. It was a remarkable turnaround after a disappointing run at Caulfield the start prior, and a win that vindicated Stokes’ decision to keep the old boy in work rather than retire him.

Ladbrokes Pakenham Cup Tips
Good Pakenham Cup tips include backing in-form stayers, last start winners and well-weighted horses in the long-distance event.
Plenty of higher rated and weighted stayers have won the race and backing the classier gallopers is a strong Pakenham Cup betting tip. Recent runners to carry big weights to victory in the event include Unusual Suspect (60.5kg in 2012), Pelicano (60kg in 2013), Pilote D’Essai (58kg in 2016), Attorney (59.5kg in 2020), and that year’s favourite Ashrun (58kg in March 2024).
Tipping the male runners is another key Pakenham Cup betting tip with just two mares having won the race since 2006, most recently Etah James (2019).

To Win: No. 11 Black Run
BLACK RUN (7) is fit and firing deserving of a shot at Black-Type glory now.
From the Archibald yard, this flying Nathaniel five-year-old is out to extend his picket fence having won three times on the trot heading into his acid test on Saturday.
Well-travelled, he won at Rosehill on November 1 carrying 57kg to victory in a BM78 before showing off his growing staying credentials with back-to-back 2400m wins at Caulfield.
He’s progressing well through the grades and has been carting plenty of weight to some eye-catching victories, so the fact he comes back from 58kg at his latest to just to just 54kg on the weekend is a huge tick.
In form apprentice Ryan Houston is going as well as his mount having been aboard for both Caulfield wins and the good gate seven draw only adds to his appeal.
Maturing, full of confidence and with a knack of finding the right spot in the run I see no reason to get off him yet.

The Ladbrokes Pakenham Cup is a popular showdown now run and won at Victoria’s Pakenham Racecourse in mid to late December.

Pakenham Cup Day originally took place in December over the summer but was moved ahead of the first 2024 edition to run on a Friday in mid-March over the autumn.
There were officially two 2024 Pakenham Cup races with the Black-Type feature moving back to December again.
Offering a lucrative $300,000 in stakes the Pakenham Cup is one of the richer provincial cup races taking place on the outskirts of Melbourne.
The event is contested over 2500m and is a handicap race.
In 2024 it took place on the day before the All-Star Mile held on the Saturday in March with Ashrun saluting before running for a second time that calendar year on December 21 with Goldman winning for the Waterhouse/Bott yard.
The Pakenham Cup replaced the Listed Werribee Cup in 2016 when the Pakenham Racing Club began racing at its new track at Tynong.
Plenty of top stayers have won the Werribee Cup / Pakenham Cup over the years including three-time Melbourne Cup hero Makybe Diva who took out the race in 2002 at just her sixth start.
It was held under the lights on a Friday night in 2024 for the first time in the event’s long history before returning to its December daytime slot later in the same year.
