Queen Of The Turf Stakes Betting

Queen Of The Turf Stakes betting is traditionally led by proven Group 1 performers that come out of the Coolmore Classic in March over 1500m at Rosehill.

The Coolmore is a quality handicap race while the Queen Of The Turf is WFA so looking for fillies and mares with previous weight-for-age form is also important.

Nettoyer (Doncaster Mile 9th in 2021) became the first Queen Of The Turf Stakes winner since 2001 to finish worse than sixth in the lead-up, and last start winners often dominate the odds with seven saluting from 2008 – 2024.

Queen Of The Turf Stakes odds are usually dominated by four-year-old mares as this age group has produced more winners than any other including seven of the winners from 2010 – 2024, most recently Zougotcha (2024). In 2017-2018 however the three-year-old fillies went back-to-back with Foxplay and Alizee respectively.

Favourites enjoyed a purple patch from 2004 – 2012 winning all but one of the editions before three upset Queen Of The Turf Stakes results from 2013 – 15 including 40/1 roughie Diamond Drille (2014). The punters were back in luck for the 2016 edition when Azkadellia won as the shortest priced in Queen Of The Turf Stakes betting.

There was another notable upset in 2019 when Kenenda won the event – run as the Coolmore Legacy – at odds of $26.

In 2021 Nettoyer also won in a boil-over at 25/1, while the next year Nimalee continued the new trend of roughies in Queen Of The Turf betting saluting at 30/1.

In 2023 the Chris Waller-trained Atishu won the Queen Of The Turf Stakes at $10 odds improving on a lead-up second in the Group 2 Emancipation Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill.

Atishu returned to run second in the 2024 Queen Of The Turf Stakes results behind her better fancied stablemate Zougotcha who saluted for the punters as the $3.50 favourite.

The Queen Of The Turf Stakes race field features a line-up of the season’s best fillies and mares proven over a mile and coming out of lead-up races like the Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) the month before and the Group 2 Emancipation Stakes (1500m) a fortnight earlier. Atishu (2nd in 2023) was the last Queen Of The Turf Stakes winner to come via the Emancipation Stakes.

From 1996 – 2024, 13 Queen Of The Turf Stakes winners had their final lead-up in the Coolmore Classic including three completing the double most recently Con Te Partiro (2020) and Zougotcha (2024).

In that time only three had their preparatory run outside of Sydney most recently with Typhoon Tracy who came off a Melbourne win at Caulfield in the Group 1 Futurity Stakes in 2010 followed in 2019 by Kenedna who improved on a Group 2 Sunline Stakes third at The Valley.

Another earlier lead-up is the Group 3 Aspiration Quality (1600m) on Randwick Guineas Day and Diamond Drille (2014) was the last mare to complete the Aspiration Quality – Queen Of The Turf Stakes double.
