Ladbrokes Tip: Quezette Stakes fillies often go on to run top three in Group 2 company later in the spring!
The latest edition of the Quezette Stakes took place on Saturday, August 16, 2025 as a lead-up to the Group 1 races for three-year-old horses over the spring and saw the Phillip Stokes trained Ferivia ($11) post a narrow but impressive upset.
2025 Quezette Stakes Results
The official Quezette Stakes 2025 Race Results & Finishing Order will be published right here once the P.B. Lawrence Stakes Day event is run and won on Saturday, August 16, 2025.

- 1st: #10 Ferivia
- 2nd: #3 My Gladiola
- 3rd: #8 Thanks Gorgeous
Lightly raced filly Ferivia ($11) announced herself as a genuine spring contender with a powerful late burst to head the 2025 Quezette Stakes results at Caulfield on Saturday, storming past the favourite Signature Scent, who eventually ran fourth, and holding off My Gladiola to score by under half a length.
Ridden by Lachlan Neindorf, who recently relocated to Melbourne, the Phillip Stokes-trained daughter of Astern showed maturity beyond her three starts, with Neindorf praising her ability to “switch on and off” and describing her as “a lovely filly on the up.”
Stokes was thrilled with the win but remains undecided on her ideal distance, saying, “We’ll see how she pulls up and make a plan – she might be on a Thousand Guineas path.”
Ferivia’s next targets could include stepping up to 1400m, with her big stride and composure suggesting she could stretch to a mile, making her a compelling prospect for the Group 1 Thousand Guineas later this spring.

The Quezette Stakes is a Group 3 race for three-year-old fillies held in mid-August during the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival on PB Lawrence Stakes Day at Caulfield Racecourse. The meeting is headlined by the Group 2 PB Lawrence Stakes (1400m) but also holds two Group 3 races with the Vain Stakes and Quezette both run over 1100m and offering $200,000 in total prize money.

A set weights plus penalties race the Quezette Stakes is a good early carnival lead-up for smart fillies looking to progress onto races like the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) on Victoria Derby Day at Flemington. Sunlight (2018) was the last filly to complete the Quezette Stakes – Coolmore Stud Stakes double.
Alternatively fillies out of the Quezette Stakes race may step out over more distance as their campaigns progress targeting events like the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m). The 2016 Quezette Stakes winner I Am A Star went on to run second in the Thousand Guineas before also winning the then Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) – now run as the Empire Rose Stakes – beating the older mares over the Melbourne Cup Carnival.

Quezette Stakes Betting
Quezette Stakes betting markets are usually led by promising fillies having their first run as a three-year-old with proven form when fresh.

Any progressive three-year-olds coming off an earlier non-Black Type win in Melbourne also sit high up the Quezette Stakes odds, as do proven stakes performers from last time in. Single-figure fancies in the Quezette Stakes betting markets have a dominant recent record so backing the fillies under $10 for the win is a good bet.
The bookies release odds on the Quezette Stakes shortly after final acceptances and barriers are out the Wednesday before the race runs on the Saturday.
Gimmie Par ($2.70 in 2021) and Charm Stone ($4 in 2023) are the latest fillies leading Quezette Stakes betting to win for the punters.
There was a notable upset in 2022 with Bound For Home in between winning at Quezette Stakes odds of $31.
Quezette Stakes Field
The Quezette Stakes race field attracts a line-up of smart young fillies, many kicking off their Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival campaigns. Fillies in the Quezette Stakes field may come off a lead-up run at the start of the month at a venue like Moonee Valley Racecourse or be having their first start of the new season.
A second-up run the following month at Flemington in the Group 2 Danehill Stakes (1200m) is often on the cards for fillies, a race the 2013 winner Kiss A Rose placed second in next start.
An easier next start option may fillies go on to contest is the Listed Cap D’Antibes Stakes (1100m) at Flemington on the same day as the Danehill Stakes. In 2015 Sabatini ran third in the Cap D’Antibes next start, while the year before Chloe In Paris ran third in the Quezette and second in the Flemington Listed race.
Graduates out of the autumn’s premier races for two-year-olds like the Blue Diamond Stakes at the Caulfield track often back-up in the Quezette Stakes as three-year-olds in the spring.
Race nominations close the Monday of race week followed by the final field and barrier draw out on the Wednesday before PB Lawrence Stakes Day on the Saturday.

Quezette Stakes Tips

Top Quezette Stakes tips include looking for past winners over similar distance and class races, any fillies with winning form over the colts / geldings coming back against their own kind, and Melbourne runners with ability that way of going.
Single-figure fancies also have a top record so taking fillies under $10 in the markets is also a good Quezette Stakes betting tip.

- To Win: #1 The Playwright ($8.50 at time of publish) – BET NOW
Plenty of form lines and intrigue in this year’s Quezette Stakes field but I’m finding it hard to ignore the price on THE PLAYWRIGHT (6) who for mine is the classiest filly in this line-up. The Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott trained daughter of Written By had a huge juvenile season that started right from her debut win at Rosehill last November. Group 3 placed at her next start, she was eye-catching when fourth to O’ Ole in the Gold Coast’s $3 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic at big odds having just her third start. She went on to win the Group 3 Widden Stakes (1100m) by the barest of margins before going out at double-figures and racing better than her price in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes crossing fourth only 2.6 lengths off Devil Night here at Caulfield. Those are some pretty impressive 2YO references coming into a race like this against her own kind. Still getting in okay in the weights, she’s had the benefit of two solid Sydney trials and looks a massive chance to salute fresh from a mid-field draw with Blake Shinn coming aboard. Well overlooked.
Quezette Stakes Form Guide
The Quezette Stakes form guide is published at Ladbrokes once the field and betting markets go up on the Wednesday of race week.
In the form guide on the Quezette Stakes race punters will find all the information and statistics they need to know before placing a bet like the jockeys, trainers, barriers and track / distance form of the fillies in the race.
Over the years the race form has held up in other Group races during the spring carnival including back in 2011 when the third place-getter Mosheen franked the form with a Group 2 Edward Manifold Stakes (1600m) win three starts later, a Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) second that October (the Thousand Guineas now runs in November) and a Melbourne Cup Carnival win the next month in the Group 1 VRC Oaks (2500m).
More recently Sunlight won the 2018 Quezette Stakes before three subsequent Melbourne Group 1 victories: the Coolmore Stud Stakes (2018), Newmarket Handicap (2019) and William Reid Stakes (2019).
