The Sandown Stakes is a popular Group 3 spring event now held in late September or early October.
Prior to 2021 the event ran in November on Zipping Classic Day, while it has recently taken place on Underwood Stakes Day.
It is now held earlier during the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival at Ladbrokes Park Hillside, Sandown.
In 2023 the Sandown Stakes was the sole Group status race on the card with the Group 1 Underwood Stakes (1800m) for Cox Plate hopefuls moved to the weekend prior.
Contested over 1500m the race offers $200,000 in prize money, and the Sandown Stakes is a quality handicap showdown sponsored by Ladbrokes.
First held in 1981 the Sandown Stakes has held Group 3 status since 1984.
The latest edition of the Ladbrokes Sandown Stakes ran at Ladbrokes Park Hillside on Sunday October 1st, 2023 and was won by the well-backed Tony Gollan-trained Queensland raider Antino ($1.35F).

Tony Gollan’s odds-on favourite from Queensland, Antino ($1.35F), continued his super form stepping up in grade to salute for the punters in the 2023 Sandown Stakes results.
