Ladbrokes Tip: Many Vinery Stud Stakes winners come via a run in the Coolmore Classic at the same track.
The Vinery Stud Stakes is one of two elite level Group 1 feature races run at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse on Tancred Stakes Day in late March (early April 2021) each Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival. While racing on the card is headlined by the $1.5 million Group 1 Tancred Stakes (2400m) for the stayers, the Vinery Stud Stakes also attracts a class field of three-year-old fillies every year.

Contested over 2000m the fillies-only feature offers $750,000 in total prize money and is run at set weights with all the hopefuls in the Vinery Stud Stakes field carrying 56kg. The traditional lead-up race to the Vinery Stud Stakes is the Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) run over the same track a fortnight earlier.
The Vinery Stud Stakes winner is exempt from ballot for the Group 1 ATC Oaks (2400m) during Sydney’s The Championships the following month. Verry Elleegant (2019) followed by the fellow Chris Waller-trained Hungry Heart (2021) are the last fillies to complete the Vinery Stud Stakes – ATC Oaks double.
Verry Elleegant would go on to win a host of subsequent Group 1 races over her glittering career, most famously the 2021 Melbourne Cup race.
The latest edition of the Vinery Stud Stakes ran on Saturday March 30, 2024 as a key ATC Oaks lead-up and was won in style by the NZ Derby winner Orchestral ($1.60F) in her first Australian start.

Vinery Stud Stakes Betting
Vinery Stud Stakes betting markets rarely favour last start winners as just seven have saluted in the race since 2006 most recently Verry Elleegant (2019), New Zealand raider Prowess (2023) who came off a Group 1 victory across the Tasman, and fellow Kiwi visitor Orchestral (2024) who won the NZ Derby in her lead-up back home.
Favourites in the Vinery Stud Stakes odds have a solid recent record with New Zealand-trained filly Orchestral ($1.60 in 2024), fellow Kiwi visitor Prowess ($2.15 in 2023), Phar Lap Stakes winner Verry Elleegant ($2.10 in 2019), and Norzita ($3 in 2013) who came off a third in the Coolmore Classic the latest to salute for the punters.
The Coolmore Classic is often a strong Vinery Stud Stakes betting guide.
2023 Vinery Stud Stakes winner Prowess was enormous winning in her Australian race debut by a runaway margin. Photo: Steve Hart.
Roughies in betting have saluted a number of times in the past decade also however including Shout The Bar ($15 in 2020), Hiyaam ($12 in 2018), Montoya’s Secret ($14 in 2017), and Fenway ($21 in 2015) so often following the order of the Vinery Stud Stakes odds isn’t the best guide.
Vinery Stud Stakes Tips
Vinery Stud Stakes tips are mostly led by fillies coming off a Coolmore Classic run however winning that lead-up doesn’t make them the best one to back.
Fillies showing a potential to stay over more distance that have proven Group 1 form are better Vinery Stud Stakes tips.
Wide barrier draws haven’t been a real hoodoo with five winners jumping from barriers 10 or 11 since 2008 so don’t avoid the widely drawn fillies in the Vinery Stud Stakes betting odds.
2024 Vinery Stud Stakes Tips
The insider Ladbrokes’ Vinery Stud Stakes 2024 betting tips online will be detailed below a couple of days out from the Tancred Stakes Day support race so bookmark this page to see the fillies to back and sack in the Group 1 clash.
- To Win: #1 Orchestral ($1.60 at time of publish) – BET NOW
No value in the favourite but this star New Zealand-trained filly is impossible to tip against on a hot streak and not looking like slowing down as she crosses the Tasman. The Roger James & Robert Wellwood-trained daughter of Savabeel chases win number five on the trot and is under the right hoop to do so with J-Mac in the saddle. Down in distance after beating home the boys in the NZ Derby (2400m) last time out on March 2 by four lengths. That drop will be the only query as she looks like she wants further again! Still, first time down under from a good gate off such stellar form at home has her the deserving top elect and definite one to beat.
Vinery Stud Stakes Field
The Vinery Stud Stakes race field attracts the season’s best three-year-old fillies displaying potential to stay the 2000m distance of the classic or further.
Norzita (2013) was the last favourite in Vinery Stud Stakes betting to salute for the punters. Photo: Steve Hart.
Previously known as the Storm Queen Stakes, the Vinery Stud Stakes field twice attracted just seven runners in the past decade in 2007 and 2012. Usually at least 11 fillies face off in the race and the last time it ran at its 16-starter capacity was in 2014 when Lucia Valentina won as an $9 chance in Vinery Stud Stakes betting.
The majority of the fillies come into the race via the Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) held two weeks earlier at Rosehill, however it is not a commonly achieved double.

Vinery Stud Stakes Form Guide
The Vinery Stud Stakes form guides reveals the jockeys, trainers, barrier draw and lead-up form of all the fillies in the field.
Looking for fillies whose lead-up form is in the Coolmore Classic and that are proven over the distance are great tips when it comes to Vinery Stud Stakes betting.
There is a long run to the first turn at Rosehill Gardens so a wide barrier for a filly in the Vinery Stud Stakes form guide isn’t a reason to rule them out for the win and seven winners have jumped from barrier 10 since 1983.
The Vinery Stud Stakes form from 2022 was franked with the winning filly Fangirl finishing second in the $10 million Golden Eagle. The Vinery third place-getter that year was Gypsy Goddess who ran second next-up in the ATC Oaks results, won the Group 1 Queensland Oaks in the winter and also placed in the Golden Eagle running third.
