UEFA Champions League Round of 16 Preview

The 2015 UEFA Champions League Round of 16 continues early Wednesday and Thursday mornings Australian time, highlighted by clashes between some of the world’s best teams.

While some results appear more likely than others, each of the four Champions League ties this week remain winnable by all eight teams, making for a particularly exciting and interesting round from a betting standpoint.

We’re offering the best odds on the widest range of markets for all UEFA Champions League matches this week.

Monaco vs Arsenal

Monaco stunned Arsenal 3-1 in the first leg of their Round of 16 tie, but have by no means assured progression to the next round, particularly in considering the London club’s recent run of form in the Premier League. To Arsenal’s detriment, no club has won a Champions League knock out tie after losing the first leg by more than one goal and they will line up against a Monaco side unbeaten in their last 16 competitive fixtures in all competitions, with a 75% win rate in the European competition at home. Arsenal will have to spend most of their time in Monaco’s 18-yard box if to have any chance of progression, meaning a high scoring affair is likely on the cards.

Atletico Madrid vs Bayer Leverkusen

In arguably the match of the week, Atletico Madrid will be hoping to reverse their fortunes in Leg 2 after going down 1-0 away to German club Bayer Leverkusen three weeks ago. Last season’s beaten finalists, Atletico have won just one of their last six competitive fixtures and face a tough task in the Bundesliga side, who have not conceded a goal in their five most recent matches. Leverkusen are without injury leading into this Champions League tie, and enter this game off the back of a thumping 4-0 win over Stuttgart domestically over the weekend. We have Atletico as clear favourites in head to head markets for this match, and as a result Bayer offer exceptional value at a quote of $5.50 to win.

Stefan Keissling scores in normal time and Leverkusen win: $11

Barcelona vs Manchester City

Manchester City were lucky to salvage a goal in a 2-1 loss to Barcelona at home three weeks ago, and were perhaps even luckier not to concede three when keeper Joe Hart stopped a Lionel Messi penalty in injury time. Barcelona is always considered a leading chance to take out Europe’s headline tournament, and as a result are clear favourites to beat the City at the Camp Nou early Thursday morning. If the Sky Blues are any chance of success and progression, marksman Sergio Aguero will have to hit the back of the net several times; adding value for all City fans confident in the upset, particularly in our Footy Freaks markets.

Borussia Dortmund vs Juventus

Borussia Dortmund have progressed to the final 16 of the Champions League for the third-consecutive season, but face an uphill battle to stay alive this week after losing 2-1 away to Italian club Juventus in the first leg of their tie. In good news for the German club, Juventus will likely be without the services of club legend Andrea Pirlo who continues to nurse a calf injury. World Cup-winning striker Marco Reus has hit five goals in his last eight appearances for BVB, while Juventus have won 31 of 39 UEFA competition ties after winning the first leg.
