The Nick Kyrgios sledging scandal has certainly opened up a can of worms, but we think that the majority of people are completely missing the point!
Yes what Kyrgios said was offensive and he is clearly a bit of a knob, but the real story in this scandal is the public exposure of yet another sporting love triangle between Stan Wawrina, Donna Vekic and Thanasi Kokkinakis.
This is definitely not the first sporting love triangle that has received public exposure and we have reminisced about some of the great love scandals in the history of sport.
Stan Wawrinka/Donna Vekic/Thanasi Kokkinakis
Nick Kyrgios dropped this bombshell yesterday afternoon at the Rodgers Cup in Canada when he said to Stan Wawrinka:
“Kokkinakis banged your girlfriend, sorry to tell you that mate.”
Kyrgios and Kokkinakis are obviously good mates and he is likely to have some inside information on this subject, but the fact is that any alleged incident probably took place before Wawrinka and Donna Vekic started dating as a the French Open champion only split with his ex-wife three months ago.
This does not stop this scandal being any juicer and we imagine that Wawrinka, Vekic and even Kokkinakis are all fairly upset with Kyrgios right now.

This was one of the biggest scandals in the history of AFL when it broke in 2002 and it completely tore apart the North Melbourne Kangaroos Football Club.
Carey was the star of the Kangaroos side during their premiership years, but he was forced to resign from the club in disgrace after it was revealed that he had an affair with the wife of then best friend and club Vice Captain Kelli Stevens.
The entire North Melbourne roster quickly turned against Carey and he was subsequently forced to finish his career with the Adelaide Crows.

A very similar scandal took place in the English Premier League back in 2009 when it was revealed that Chelsea and England captain had a four month affair with the girlfriend of teammate Wayne Bridge.
The scandal led to Terry being stripped of the English captaincy ahead of the 2010 World Cup and Bridge famously elected not to shake the hand of Terry when they met in an EPL clash the following year after Bridge was transferred to Manchester City.

You would think that Chelsea players would have learnt their lesson after the Bridge/Terry scandal, but that is clearly not the case as Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois was alleged to have had an affair with the girlfriend of then teammate Kevin De Bruyne when they were both out on loan in 2013.
Making the situation even more awkward is the fact that both players are key members of the Belgian National team, but they have reportedly settled their differences thanks to the intervention of Belgian Manager Marc Wilmots during qualifying games for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Russell Wilson has wasted no time bedding numerous good looking women since he split from his wife in 2013, but he reportedly crossed the line when he hooked up with former WWE diva Erika Hammond last year while she was still dating Detroit Lions tight end Joseph Fauria.
Fauria was quick to take his allegations public and posted on Twitter “’Hey @DangeRussWilson enjoy her @ErikaAnnHammond. She had me thinking she was a loyal GF. I almost feel you @BrennanClay24 #SprayTan”
Wilson never publically commented on the allegations, but it is sure to add some interest to the next encounter between the Detroit Lions and Seattle Seahawks.
Maria Sharapova/ Grigor Dimitrov/ Serena Williams
The cold war between Maria Sharapova and Serena Williams has been the talk of the WTA for the last couple of years and if you believe the rumors it has everything to do with Bulgarian star Grigor Dimitrov.
Dimitrov and Williams dated back in 2012, but Dimitrov allegedly ditched the world number one for Sharapova and left Williams heartbroken.
Williams publically stated that she was left shattered by the split with Dimitrov and she wasted no time having a crack at Sharapova in a famous interview with Rolling Stone in 2013.
“She begins every interview with ‘I’m so happy. I’m so lucky’ –- it’s so boring,” Williams said of Sharapova.
“She’s still not going to be invited to the cool parties.
“And, hey, if she wants to be with the guy with a black heart, go for it.”
Sharapova took her chance to hit back at Williams and questioned Serena’s relationship with her current boyfriend and coach Patrick Mouratoglou.
‘If she wants to talk about something personal, maybe she should talk about her relationship and her boyfriend that was married and is getting a divorce and has kids.”
While Sharapova may have won over Dimitrov, Williams continues to dominate Sharapova on the court and is chasing a historic Grand Slam at the US Open next month.
Jackie Beriman/ Brad McLean/Nikita McLean
There is always plenty of drama in the Australian jockey ranks, but the scandal between sisters Jackie Beriman and Nikita McLean and her husband Brad McLean was straight out of a soap opera.
Both Nikita and Jackie were stood down from riding after fighting in the jockeys rooms at a meeting at Hamilton in April of 2013 and it was later revealed that McLean had attacked her sister after learning that she had slept with her husband and jumps jockey Brad McLean.
At future meetings, a female steward was sent to the jockeys room to make sure that there was no repeat of the incident and relations between the sisters are still reported to be very strained.
Pyro/ Luann Van Houten/ Gyro
Luann Van Houten was one of the most eligible bachelorettes in Springfield after she split with her hapless husband Kirk Van Houten and she quickly shacked up with American Gladiator Pyro.
However, the relationship ended badly when Milhouse Van Houten revealed that his mother had been cheating on him with his best friend and fellow American Gladiator Gyro.
